About The Position

Under direction of a Geographic Information System (GIS) Specialist 1 or other supervisory official, designs, develops, coordinates, and conducts computerized geographic information system work relating to the geographic analysis of environmental parameters and/or other factors, image processing, interpretation and application of remote sensing data, and mathematical cartography research; coordinates and conducts the operation and maintenance of computer hardware and software associated with the Geographic Information System; does other related duties. Specific to the Position This position will design, develop and coordinate GIS datasets, analyses and interactive web mapping applications. This position will also act as technical advisors to department staff and external stakeholders on questions related to GIS relevant to fish and wildlife conservation and management. In addition, this position will also prepare and coordinate the preparation of technical reports, GIS metadata, and other technical documentation.

Requirements

  • Seven (7) years of professional experience with geographic information systems, including computer graphics and computer hardware digitizing procedures.
  • Possession of a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university; and three (3) years of the above-mentioned professional experience.
  • Possession of a Master's degree in Geography or Environmental Science including or supplemented by the additional credits indicated below; and two (2) years of the above-mentioned professional experience.
  • A specific bachelor's degree in Geography, Environmental Science or related field with twelve (12) semester hours in computer mapping/GIS which shall have included spatial programming and digital image processing; and two (2) years of the above-mentioned professional experience.
  • Appointees will be required to possess a driver's license valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle, rather than employee mobility, is necessary to perform the essential duties of the position.
  • All persons newly hired on or after September 1, 2011, have one year from the date of employment to establish, and then maintain principal residence in the State of New Jersey subject to the provisions of N.J.S.A. 52:14-7 (L.2011, Chapter 70), also known as the “New Jersey First Act”.
  • Selected candidates must be authorized to work in the United States per the Department of Homeland Security, United States Citizenship, and Immigration Services regulations.

Nice To Haves

  • High level of proficiency with ESRI's suite of products (ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online, Insights for ArcGIS) and their application to habitat conservation and fish and wildlife management in New Jersey.
  • Drone Pilot Certification and experience with ArcGIS Drone2Map are preferred.
