About The Position

The Drug/General Merchandise (Drug GM) Manager is responsible for leading the Drug GM department’s daily operations, merchandising, inventory control, and team performance. This role ensures strong in‑stock conditions, accurate execution of merchandising and promotional programs, and an excellent customer experience while driving sales, controlling shrink, and developing associates.

Requirements

  • Prior experience in retail, drug, or general merchandise management.
  • Proven ability to lead teams and manage department operations.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and problem‑solving skills.
  • Working knowledge of inventory management, merchandising standards, and labor planning.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including weekends and holidays.
  • Familiarity with store systems, reports, and operational metrics.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, and lift for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift, push, pull, and move merchandise up to company‑defined weight limits.
  • Ability to work in varied store environments, including stockroom and sales floor areas.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, coach, and develop Drug GM supervisors and associates.
  • Set clear expectations and hold associates accountable for performance and standards.
  • Support hiring, onboarding, training, scheduling, and performance management.
  • Foster a positive, safe, and inclusive work environment.
  • Support associate development and succession planning within the department.
  • Oversee daily Drug GM operations, including stocking, replenishment, rotation, and presentation.
  • Ensure compliance with company planograms, pricing, signage, and merchandising standards.
  • Execute seasonal, promotional, and reset programs accurately and on time.
  • Maintain organized backroom and sales floor conditions.
  • Ensure proper handling, storage, and rotation of all Drug GM products.
  • Manage ordering, receiving, and inventory control processes.
  • Monitor inventory accuracy, address discrepancies, and follow shrink reduction best practices.
  • Partner with store leadership and Asset Protection to minimize theft, loss, and damages.
  • Ensure proper execution of inventory counts and audits.
  • Drive a customer‑focused culture by modeling service excellence.
  • Ensure aisles are clean, organized, and easy to shop.
  • Address customer questions and concerns promptly and professionally.
  • Support store‑wide service standards and initiatives.
  • Drive department sales through strong merchandising and operational execution.
  • Control labor usage and productivity within department guidelines.
  • Analyze sales, shrink, and labor reports to identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Take corrective action to meet department goals and performance targets.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, safety standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment.
  • Follow all procedures related to hazardous materials, recalls, and controlled products where applicable.
  • Partner closely with the Store Director, Assistant Store Director, and other department managers.
  • Communicate priorities, expectations, and operational updates clearly to the team.
  • Support store‑wide initiatives, seasonal transitions, and change management efforts.
