About The Position

The General Manager of the Cleveland Truck Plant will lead all truck manufacturing operations and direct support functions within the world class Truck Manufacturing Plant, related to SQDCME (Safety, Quality, Delivery, Cost, Morale, Environmental). They will also provide strategic and entrepreneurial leadership based on the overall strategic objectives of Daimler Truck, aiming to foster future competitiveness and optimize plant results through continuous improvement activities. What You Drive at DTNA Lead plant operations, developing and introducing cost-efficient production processes, optimizing the total truck conversion cost. Lead, coach, motivate and develop the plant leadership team; lead regular team meetings; actively lead and engage in key people related topics for the business including talent acquisition and development. Establish and maintain an atmosphere of confidence and trust for all employees to flourish. Ensure plant operations effectiveness through common goal setting, common KPI's with a standardized Truck Operating System (TOS+) approach. Lead, guide and improve all indirect and direct support and manufacturing operations within areas of responsibility using the principles of TOS+ and Lean Manufacturing. Lead quality improvement efforts, focusing on new product launches as well as series production, using own knowledge and feedback from multiple internal and external sources. Ensure production demand is met while achieving the highest level of quality. Establish, maintain and improve all processes in the Readiness-to-Build sequence and in the truck assembly operations, including delivery and quality of all finished vehicles. Establish and track all improvements against and agreed-upon set of targets. Lead plant operations strategy and provide guidance to all business aspects including budgeting and forecasting of all related expenses. Represent Daimler and the plant to external customer and stakeholders, interacting with the customers when they visit the plant as well as proactively visiting them in order to improve relationships and improve plant manufacturing processes. Oversee and provide local leadership and local guidance to the centrally-managed functions of Information Technology (IT), International Procurement Services (IPS) Manufacturing Knowledge

Requirements

  • BS Engineering, Business Administration, Marketing, or other closely related field
  • At least 12 years of progressive experience, including 4 years at the management/supervisory level.
  • Knowledge of automotive or commercial vehicle industry as well as basic technical product and process knowledge
  • Leadership experience over factories and suppliers with the support of a global cross-functional organization in a multicultural environment
  • Technical competence in the fields of engineering, production, quality, logistics
  • Experience leading in both a professional and shop floor manufacturing facility, with knowledge of unionized work environments
  • Understanding of operations IT systems and data, knowledge of MRP, internal materials IT systems, and problem solving techniques, from practical problem solving up through systematic approaches (6 Sigma, Shanin, etc.)
  • Knowledge of Lean Production System and capacity to drive improvements in a cross-functional environment
