About The Position

The General Manager - Philadelphia Port (HOT) is responsible for all Philadelphia Port activities related to vehicle processing operations. This position will coordinate overall activities with Glovis America HQ (GUS), our customers, and their local representatives. Their responsibilities will include achieving production goals, inventory aging management, port profitability, new technology implementation, quality management, and ensuring safety. They will also proactively identify, analyze, and resolve problems or issues that may arise with customer, client, or employees.

  • H.S Diploma/G.E.D Required
  • 8 - 12 years of direct experience in Port Operations Required
  • 4 - 7 years of supervisory experience Required

Responsibilities

  • Establish KPI in core port goals and monitor overall facility performance
  • Manage facility activities through planning with department managers to ensure facility objectives are achieved for production goals and inventory aging
  • Lead efforts to identify obstacles for achieving tender targets and proactively produce and communicate remediations
  • Monitor port inventory management status daily and provide guidance to body shop management and Operations management with priorities
  • Actively assess labor resource needs and make dynamic adjustment to maximize labor utilization and cost savings
  • Provide direction, development, and leadership to supervisors
  • Provide leadership and training to accomplish company objectives, quality, and safety goals
  • Coordinate manufacturing activities with all other functions of the organization, and suppliers to obtain optimum production and utilization of human resources, machines, and equipment
  • Develop plans, budgets, and control efficiency to maximize profitability
  • Implement cost effective systems of control over operating expenditures, manpower, wages, and salaries
  • Control and minimize labor overtime and repair expenses
  • Manage non-standard cost expenditures to meet operational and financial goals
  • Manage investment planning and implementation to increase port capability and safety
  • Coordinate and facilitate positive relationships with customers; emphasizing rapport with local Region Managers
  • Develop and implement process improvement initiatives
  • Manage relationship with vendors, port authorities, and city officials to improve port capacity and new business acquisition
  • Analyze quality data to develop countermeasures to correct process deficiencies
  • Create and change departmental processes for continuous process improvements activities
  • Conduct departmental process and safety audits at appropriate intervals
  • Provide direction to direct reports to perform safety audits and reports
  • Improve processes and policies in support of organizational goals
  • Monitor adherence to rules, regulations, and procedures
  • Create and submit recommendations for changes to the HQ Operations
  • Perform personnel functions such as hiring, mentoring, and performance evaluation
  • Respond to inquiries from all internal/external customers
  • Respond to inquiries from internal and external customers, including Hyundai, Kia, Finn, and GLOVIS headquarters
  • Ensure frequent and effective communication with direct reports, as well as members of the HQ Operations management team
  • Support business development with new customer development
  • Facilitate new customer visit by preparing port facility and capability presentation materials
  • Provide local level solutions to the new business requirements
  • Manage employee training and HR related incidents
  • Manage new employee training standard and methods to produce high quality products and safe environment
  • Manage any HR related incidents according to the company policy to reduce impact to overall business
  • Other duties as assigned
