About The Position

Are you someone that enjoys account reconciliation, but most of all reporting and analyzing? Join our team at Renton Technical College! Our Business Office is looking to hire a data-driven professional to support finances. The General Ledger Accountant will be responsible for monitoring grant and contract budgets, preparing reports in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), reconciling payroll data, and maintaining appropriate documentation. This position fosters accountability through the analysis and reporting of budgets vs. the actual variances and will coordinate all reporting of grants with the appropriate Grant Administrator. This position is a full-time, classified, and overtime eligible position within the Business Office, reporting directly to the Accounting Manager. This position is represented by the Renton Professional Technical Association (Prof-Tech) union at RTC. The salary range for this position is $73,882 - $92,698 annually. New hires may not be placed above step 10 ($88,782 annually). Requirements

  • Associate degree in accounting, business, finance, or closely related field and two (2) years of full-time experience in accounting is required.
  • Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB).
  • Experience with reconciling accounts and performing audits. Demonstrated knowledge of internal controls.
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office 365, specifically experience creating & editing documents, spreadsheets and presentations.
  • Previous success learning new computer software programs/platforms required. Previous PeopleSoft experience is preferred.
  • Demonstrates attention to detail required as well as previous experience maintaining accurate records, managing multiple tasks, and planning and organizing work in order to meet changing priorities and deadlines.
  • Excellent leadership and interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality, think critically and exercise independent judgment required.
  • Demonstrated ability to promote universal design and accessibility. Proficiency in (or ability to learn within 6 month of hire) the production of accessible content, whether print or electronic.
  • Ability to represent the college in a positive and professional manner, while using tact, discretion and courtesy.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in the Washington State Community and Technical College system is preferred.
  • Ability to speak a regionally top spoken language other than English is preferred (Spanish, Vietnamese, Russian, Somali, and Chinese).

Responsibilities

  • Audit and review financial transactions in the general ledger. Research and correct errors.
  • Review and communicate policies, processes, and procedures for grants and contracts. Make recommendations for improvement in compliance with Uniform Guidance, GAAP, and GASB standards.
  • Coordinate with grant managers, Deans, Vice Presidents, and other college staff to ensure proper recording of revenue and expenditures.
  • Enter and approve manual journal entries as needed.
  • Prepare and/or analyze various reports for management decision making.
  • Maintain grant records and activity within the grants module and general ledger; including budgets, revisions, billing, and expense transfers, as needed.
  • Serve as subject matter expert, providing advice for compliance in all areas of grants and contracts, including fiscal and program deliverables, and scrutinize for areas of needed correction.
  • Retain and reconcile Time & Effort reporting for direct or indirect federal grant funding.
  • Prepare and maintain transactions and documentation to ensure matching requirements are met and indirect costs are properly recorded.
  • Understand and perform complex accounting related to grant revenue and expenses. Submit invoices to grantors, and through OBIS when needed, ensuring all supporting documents are included. Resolve any billing issues with grantor.
  • Monitor all grants and contracts for allowable, necessary, and reasonable expenses, and provide individual training and guidance to grant managers.
  • Establish and maintain files of state and federal grants and contracts. Follow retention guidelines, and keep all files organized and accessible for audit.
  • Serve as audit liaison for grants as needed.
  • Participate in the completion of the college's monthly, annual, and biennial closing processes. Prepare year-end grant and contract accruals and monitor for accuracy. Review close/open transactions at fiscal year-end.
  • Attend the state budgeting, accounting, and reporting committee meetings.
  • Communicate professionally and effectively, both orally and in writing, with college employees, departments and outside agencies.
  • Maintain regular attendance and punctuality.
  • Perform other related projects and assignments as assigned.
