Job Summary The General Clerk I is responsible for all phases of mail production and distribution within the instructed guidelines and timeframes established by the statement of work (SOW). This will include sorting, applying postage, researching and distributing the mail to designated mail organizations and mail sorting bins/casings.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or general equivalency degree (GED) required.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain access to Ft. Bragg military installation required.
  • Must be able to obtain a government contract secret clearance required.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Must be able to multi-task and work in a fast paced, structured/procedure-oriented environment.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite Products required.
  • Sufficient oral and written communication skills to facilitate clear and accurate information exchanges with customers.
  • Ability to handle inquiries and requests in a courteous and professional manner.
  • Ability to follow protocol when processing classified information.
  • Sufficient computer and keyboarding skills to record information from the inquirer in an accurate and efficient manner.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure that mail is prepared correctly by the originating office, that the least expensive postage or UPS rate possible is assigned to meet the sender's requirements, and that standard bulk rate or other permit mailings are used when authorized.
  • Determine disposition of mail addressed to personnel and ensure delivery within timeframe outlined in SOW.
  • Research mail not properly addressed or properly coded and redistribute within timeframe outlined in SOW.
  • Separate outgoing official mail from distribution and sort by pouch, destination, class, size/weight, and postage account number.
  • Process and deliver mail within the timeframe outlined in the SOW.
  • Operate metering equipment and compute postage and fees for outgoing mail through USPS.
  • Affix the correct postage for mailing and enter the amount of postage expended to the numbered accounts.
  • Perform other responsibilities as assigned.
