About The Position

C.J. Hughes Construction Co., Inc. is seeking a skilled and safety-conscious Fusion Technician to join our Water Distribution team. This position plays a vital role in the installation, maintenance, and repair of residential water distribution systems. The ideal candidate has hands-on experience in plastic pipe fusion, service line installations, and underground utility work.

Requirements

Prior experience in gas utility construction and/or service line installation preferred.
Certified in plastic pipe fusion (butt/electrofusion); or willing to become certified.
Working knowledge of underground utility construction practices and safety protocols.
Must be able to work in all weather conditions and physically demanding environments.
Valid driver's license with a clean driving record (CDL preferred but not required).
Pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check.
Willing to travel and stay overnight when required.

Nice To Haves

Mechanical aptitude and ability to troubleshoot field issues.
Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality work.
Ability to read and interpret utility maps, blueprints, and construction drawings.
Experience with hand tools, fusion equipment, and service meters.

Responsibilities

Perform electrofusion and butt fusion on polyethylene gas pipe in accordance with industry standards and company procedures.
Install, maintain, and repair residential service lines and meter sets.
Operate excavation and trenching equipment to expose underground mains and services safely.
Ensure compliance with DOT regulations, company safety policies, and client-specific requirements.
Conduct pressure testing and leak surveys of installed lines.
Complete required documentation, service orders, and compliance paperwork accurately.
Communicate clearly with foremen, inspectors, customers, and team members.
Respond to service calls and emergencies as needed.
Maintain clean, organized, and properly stocked work vehicles and equipment.
