Position summary: The Measurement Analyst I plays a crucial role in analyzing natural gas volume and gas quality measurement data. Responsibilities include identifying and approving discrepancies. Setting-up customer reports, completing, approving, and closing monthly volumetric data before it is sent to billing. Other duties include approving gas quality data, using decision making skills to resolve measurement anomalies, and collaborating with internal BHE teams to optimize processes. Pay Range: This posting includes the full pay range for this position. Pay is based on a number of factors and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and internal equity. Level I: $54,100 - $81,250 Senior: $65,300 - $98,050 Reporting Relationship: Measurement Services Manager Location: Council Bluffs, Iowa or Lakewood, Colorado

Requirements

  • Level I:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 2 years of utility experience or related analytical experience in, gas measurement, gas supply transportation services, billing and/or accounting.
  • Ability to participate in structured training programs to develop foundational skills in gas measurement principles and advanced software tools.
  • Ability to provide experience in troubleshooting, data validation, data analysis, and measurement system maintenance.
  • Ability to engage in continuous learning opportunities to stay informed on industry standards (e.g., ISHM, AGA, Quorum, SGA) and new technologies relevant to gas measurement.
  • Senior:
  • Associate's Degree in business, or accounting or related field.
  • 5 or more years of experience in natural gas measurement, billing, accounting, or a related role within the energy industry.
  • Ability to review department procedures for team members and field technicians to enhance expertise in gas measurement principles, data validation techniques, and troubleshooting processes.
  • Knowledgeable with current industry trends, standards (e.g., ISHM, AGA, Quorum, SGA), and emerging technologies, sharing insights with the team to foster continuous professional growth.
  • Ability to facilitate training during measurement roundtables for technicians on an annual basis.
  • Ability to act as a liaison between field operations, SCADA, gas supply/gas transportation services, IT teams, and other departments to address complex measurement issues.
  • Ability to support measurement manager in cross-functional initiatives to align measurement activities with OKRs, system performance, and continuous improvement.
  • Ability to support measurement manager and team in facilitating collaborative problem-solving efforts to enhance measurement system performance and reporting accuracy.
  • Strong analytical and decision-making skills, excellent communication and people skills, proficiency in data analysis, attention to detail, and knowledge of regulatory requirements and industry standards.
  • Collaboration efforts to help discover and mitigate risks proactively and streamline processes to reduce redundancies.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working with utility customer information or distribution operations systems (SCADA, FlowCal). Experience in an office setting utilizing data tools.
  • Natural gas exposure, LDC, FlowCal, or similar measurement platform exposure.

Responsibilities

  • Perform analysis and segment assignments for natural gas flow, volume, and pressure data. Identify discrepancies or anomalies and perform data checks to ensure measurement records align with expected values from field equipment.
  • Utilize measurement software (e.g., FLOWCAL) to reconcile imbalances within local delivery and receipt points or systems.
  • Complete the monthly closing of volumetric data by ensuring all required data is accurate, complete, and properly reconciled, including detailed verification of input data and cross-referencing with field reports.
  • Analyze and complete the initial review of gas quality data, including components such as heating value and hydrocarbon composition, to ensure compliance with operational standards.
  • Serve as a decision maker for the measurement data completeness and accuracy for the upgrade and implementation of AutoSol and SCADA software and ensure smooth integration with other systems and alert field technicians for troubleshooting potential measurement issues.
  • Provide detailed measurement information to comply with regulatory standards and internal procedures, schedule and prepare basic reports within measurement software for regulatory compliance, internal stakeholders, and external customers and review CIS+ sync reports to ensure volumetric and gas quality billing data accuracy.
  • Provide summary reports on volumetric data, gas quality metrics, and storage facility activity for senior analysts and stakeholders, monitor and prepare reports for natural gas storage activities, ensuring data accuracy and adherence to operational and regulatory requirements.
  • Work as a team with field technicians, core team, SCADA, GTS, GS, and IT staff to address measurement anomalies or system issues.
  • Actively participate in team meetings to discuss ongoing projects, and system changes.
  • Provide accurate and timely gas measurement data.
  • Daily validation of measurement data to satisfy verification of data and system integrity through detailed policies and procedures and verification of system and process controls.
  • Setting up ACM polling as necessary.
  • Running unaccounted-for balance reports.
  • Reviewing meter tests.
  • Closing assigned meters for billing purposes.
  • Assigning and reviewing gas quality assignments.
  • Setting up new meters/pins.
  • Train new coworkers as needed in measurement and meter testing software.
