About The Position

Graduate Assistants in University College, Retention Services, support and execute the programs, services, and outreach efforts of University College, Retention Services. These programs include: Project Success, an intervention program for students on academic probation; Redbird Reboot, an intervention for students with Early Alert Grades indicating academic struggles; Project Rebound, weekly group meetings for students on continued academic probation; targeted calls and outreach efforts to students who might benefit from support; assisting with Academic Records submitted to the Redbird Care Team; Redbird Restart, assisting with specific course lesson planning and program recruitment/enrollment for this one-credit hour course for students on academic probation; and Returning Redbirds, conducting outreach to former Illinois State students who left the University without completing a degree, including identification of missing degree requirements and exploring options of how those could be completed. The role also involves utilizing best practices in college success to influence student academic success and retention, applying these skills to all tasks listed and other duties as assigned. Additional responsibilities may include assistance with the Impact Award and participation in the Reinstatement Committee review process. This position may also complete benchmarking research on academic policies, programs, and supports offered elsewhere. Graduate Assistants may also assist in the preparation of the University College assessment plan. In executing the duties of this position, the Graduate Assistant supports the goals and objectives of University College.

Requirements

  • Eligible for appointment as per the requirements in the Graduate Assistant Handbook
  • Must be a degree seeking graduate student at Illinois State University in the following programs: College Student Personnel Administration, Communication, Psychology, Social Work, Sociology, Family and Consumer Sciences
  • Eligible for employment in the United States and at Illinois State University and/or for the number of hours required for the position
  • International students are restricted by their visa status to no more than 20 hours per week of on-campus employment when the university is in session but may work up to 28 hours per week when the university is not in session

Responsibilities

  • Support and execute the programs, services, and outreach efforts of University College, Retention Services
  • Support Project Success, an intervention program for students on academic probation
  • Support Redbird Reboot, an intervention for students with Early Alert Grades indicating academic struggles
  • Support Project Rebound, weekly group meetings for students on continued academic probation
  • Conduct targeted calls and outreach efforts to students who might benefit from support
  • Assist with Academic Records submitted to the Redbird Care Team
  • Assist with specific course lesson planning and program recruitment/enrollment for Redbird Restart, a one-credit hour course for students on academic probation
  • Conduct outreach to former Illinois State students who left the University without completing a degree (Returning Redbirds)
  • Identify missing degree requirements and explore options of how those could be completed for Returning Redbirds
  • Utilize best practices in college success to influence student academic success and retention
  • Apply college success skills to all tasks listed and other duties as assigned
  • Assist with the Impact Award
