About The Position

This is a Graduate Assistant Pre-Professional position within the Student Counseling Services Relaxation Room at Illinois State University, spanning Fall 2026 to Spring 2027. The role involves assisting with the planning, administrative support, and marketing of the Relaxation Room Services. The GA will utilize evidence-based interventions such as mindfulness, meditation, diaphragmic breathing, progressive muscle relaxation, and biofeedback with clients. Other duties include facilitating workshops on campus, developing stress management resource materials, providing administrative support for online resources, and researching new trends in university counseling center relaxation rooms. The GA will meet weekly with the Relaxation Room coordinator and perform other assigned duties. The position also entails serving as the Student Counseling Services Relaxation Room GA, providing anxiety-reducing information to clients, and facilitating outreach services as needed.

Requirements

  • Eligible for appointment as per the requirements in the Graduate Assistant Handbook which can be found at https://hr.illinoisstate.edu/downloads/GA_Handbook.pdf
  • Must be a degree seeking graduate student at Illinois State University in Family Consumer Sciences, Psychology, College Student Personnel Administration (CSPA), or Social Work.
  • Must be eligible for employment in the United States and at Illinois State University and/or for the number of hours required for the position.

Nice To Haves

Responsibilities

  • Assist with the planning, administrative support, and marketing of the SCS Relaxation Room Services
  • Utilization of evidence-based interventions, ie. mindfulness, meditation, diaphragmic breathing, progressive muscle relaxation and biofeedback with clients in the relaxation room
  • Facilitate workshops on campus as needed, focused on reducing feelings of distress and improving coping
  • Develop resource materials for stress management for clients to use outside of SCS
  • Provide administrative support for SCS staff in developing the SCS stress management resources online
  • Researching & identifying new trends in University Counseling Center Relaxation Rooms & resources
  • Meeting weekly with w/ Relaxation Room coordinator
  • Performing other duties as assigned
  • Serve as the Student Counseling Services Relaxation Room GA
  • Provide anxiety reducing information to clients in the relaxation room
  • Facilitate outreach services as needed
