About The Position

The Court Advocate Paralegal supports survivors of family and domestic violence by providing legal advocacy, procedural guidance, and compassionate assistance throughout the court process. This role ensures that survivors understand their rights, have access to protective legal measures, and feel supported during an emotionally challenging time. This position strengthens program impact by increasing survivor safety, improving legal outcomes, and fostering community collaboration. This position requires a person with high personal integrity, ethics, and knowledge of the Oklahoma Court System. The Court Advocate is responsible for attending court proceedings and providing client support during the court process regarding domestic violence, stalking, teen dating violence, sexual assault, and human sex trafficking issues. The Court Advocate is also responsible for assisting the Staff Attorney and Staff Paralegal in compiling documentation, communicating important court-related information with the client, and providing other assistance as needed. The Court Advocate will provide client-centered, trauma-focused court support services for victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, human sex trafficking, stalking, and teen dating violence. Requirements

  • Associate’s degree or higher in Paralegal Studies, Criminal Justice, Social Work, or related field
  • 4 or more years of experience in victim advocacy, family law, or domestic violence prevention
  • 1 or more years of experience as a paralegal
  • Intermediate knowledge of domestic violence dynamics, trauma-informed practices, and victim rights
  • Intermediate knowledge with the dynamics of domestic violence, sexual assault, teen dating violence, stalking, and/or human trafficking
  • Willing and able to travel to meet with clients, attend off-site hearings, or participate in community outreach events.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work with individuals in crisis while maintaining professionalism and empathy
  • Requires leadership skills and the ability to take initiative
  • Familiarity with the dynamics of domestic violence, sexual assault, teen dating violence, stalking, and/or human trafficking
  • Must have OVTTACC (Office for Victims of Crime Training and Technical Assistance Center) certification within 90 days of hire
  • Requires a high level of organization and project management skills
  • Requires demonstrated ability to prioritize and multitask
  • Requires a high level of personal integrity and ethics
  • Requires a high level of problem-solving skills and technical writing skills
  • Familiarity with local and state laws regarding protective orders and victim services.
  • Requires familiarity with writing Emergency Orders of Protection
  • Requires willingness and ability to learn new skills, including travel to conferences and training sessions
  • Working knowledge of the Oklahoma Court System in the areas of criminal court proceedings or family court proceedings preferred
  • Requires the ability to use Microsoft Office Suite programs
  • Requires good interpersonal communication and teamwork skills
  • Requires familiarity with the concepts of project management
  • Must be able to pass a criminal background check, including fingerprinting
  • Must be able to pass drug/alcohol testing
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and clean driving record – may be required to drive GSA or tribal vehicles

Nice To Haves

  • Working knowledge of the Oklahoma Court System in the areas of criminal court proceedings or family court proceedings preferred
