Work with fellow crew members, under the leadership of the Furnish Prep Supervisor, to ensure the safe and efficient operations of basin area. The Basin Operator is responsible for monitoring and maintaining the facility’s wastewater treatment systems to ensure all water used in the paper-making process is properly cleaned before being discharged to the municipality. This role is critical to the facility’s environmental compliance and the safety of local drinking water. Operate and monitor wastewater treatment basins and associated equipment, ensuring treated water meets environmental standards before release to the city system. Adjust chemical rates, flow rates, and aeration systems as necessary to maintain proper treatment levels. Maintain communication with mill equipment operators to ensure their processes support wastewater treatment goals. Collect and analyze water samples; work with lab personnel to monitor basin influent turbidity, basin effluent turbidity, chemical standpoints, and watercolor visual. Log operational data, report abnormalities, and take corrective actions when systems are out of specification. Perform regular inspections and maintenance of clarifiers, screens, pumps, agitators, tanks, and valves. Follow all mill and department safety protocols, including operation of equipment, lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures, and appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE). Understand the hazards, including chemical hazards, to work safely and responsibly. Maintain cleanliness and organization in the basin area to ensure a safe working environment. Work in a production facility exposed to cold, heat, humidity, and outside elements. Requires standing, sitting, and walking for extended periods. Shift work required, including nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.
