About The Position

Norfolk Hardware is seeking a Front End Cashier to greet customers, process purchases, and ensure a positive shopping experience. The role involves maintaining a clean and organized checkout area. The ideal candidate is friendly, outgoing, detail-oriented, able to work under pressure, and capable of multi-tasking. The position offers competitive wages, flexible hours, and a supportive work environment, along with benefits such as health, dental, and vision insurance, a 401(k) plan, and paid time off. The schedule is variable, including shifts from 6:15am-2:15pm and 10am-6pm, with a starting rate of up to $18.00/hour based on experience.

Requirements

  • Friendly, outgoing, and has a strong attention to detail
  • Able to work well under pressure and be able to multi-task
  • Regular, on-time attendance is an essential function of this job
  • Good communication and customer service skills via face-to-face and phone, with a varying customer base
  • Ability to work in a team environment with limited supervision
  • Good computer skills
  • Ability to assist customers with product inquiries
  • Ability to complete basic math
  • 1+ year of customer service/cashier experience (preferably with one employer)

Nice To Haves

  • Hardware store experience desired

Responsibilities

  • Ring up customers' purchases quickly and accurately, and handle cash, checks, and credit card transactions per company policy
  • Assist customers by answering questions, directing them to items in the store, or inquiries via phone
  • Work together as a team to assist other cashiers when needed and identify possible shrinkage by pointing out items on carts or under carriages they may not be able to see
  • Keep the register area clean and stocked with bags, register tape, pens, etc
  • Maintain a positive image as a Norfolk employee and address all situations in a professional manner
  • Ask questions, interact with customers, and create a Positive Customer Experience
