Requirements

  • Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of high school and two years of office experience.
  • Requires the ability to keyboard accurately at 45 wpm.
  • Requires ability to speak, write and translate Spanish at a colloquial level.

Nice To Haves

  • Two (2) years of experience working on a multi-line phone system.
  • One (1) year of experience in office methods and procedures, such as data entry, record-keeping, document organization, filing, and general office workflow.
  • One (1) year of extensive skills in writing, composition, grammar, spelling, and punctuation.
  • One (1) year of experience with Microsoft Office Suites or similar software.

Responsibilities

  • Answers multiple telephone lines for the Department of Labor, including phone lines handling minimum wage and overtime, child labor and wage payment and collection act inquiries.
  • Performs intake functions on mail, email, and online complaint applications received by the Department of Labor (DOL).
  • Performs translating functions for Spanish-speaking clients seeking information and assistance from the Department of Labor who cannot read or speak English.
  • Responds to in-person and written inquiries concerning the laws enforced by the agency and procedures for filing a claim and the status of claims.
  • Records information taken from wage claim applications on file folders for use in the wage claim section.
  • Attends to the reception area for the Chicago Office of the Illinois Department of Labor.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
