About The Position

We’re looking for a freelance Social Video Editor to support short-form, social-first video projects for client work, with the potential to collaborate on an ongoing basis as needs evolve. This remote role focuses on short-form video for social platforms, primarily TikTok and Instagram (Reels, Stories, ads). We’re not looking for someone who simply cuts footage. We’re looking for a creative partner who understands how social content works: someone who can take a rough idea or goal and help shape it into a compelling, platform-native video. Projects may include: 15–30s explainer or product videos Paid social video assets Organic TikTok / Reels Cut-downs and remixes from longer video shoots Animations and motion graphics Iterative testing of hooks, intros, and formats

Requirements

  • 3+ years experience editing short-form video for social platforms
  • Deep familiarity with TikTok and Instagram (Reels, Stories, ads)
  • Strong motion design and/or animation skills
  • Comfortable shaping ideas and making creative recommendations
  • Fast, organized, and reliable
  • Clear communicator who collaborates well with designers and strategists
  • Availability within 10 am – 6 pm EST

Nice To Haves

  • Strong preference for someone based in the Tri-State area (NY / NJ / CT), as we occasionally meet in person
  • Comfortable appearing on camera (for example, TikTok-style explainers, green screen videos)
  • Experience acting as a neutral “brand voice” for social content
  • Familiarity with paid social creative testing workflows

Responsibilities

  • Concept Development & Storyboarding
  • Take high-level concepts or briefs and help refine the direction for short-form social
  • Shape narrative flow, pacing, and emphasis for 15–30s videos
  • Propose strong “stop-the-scroll” opening hooks
  • Create or collaborate on lightweight storyboards or outlines
  • Develop multiple intro or hook variations when testing is required
  • Video Creation & Editing
  • Create and edit short-form videos using a mix of:
  • Stock footage (sourced thoughtfully)
  • Platform-native text treatments
  • Motion graphics / animation
  • AI-assisted assets (when appropriate)
  • Live-action footage provided by our team
  • Edit for clarity, pace, and performance
  • Ensure videos feel native to TikTok and Instagram (formats, timing, conventions)
  • Platform-Native Execution
  • Apply best practices for TikTok and Instagram content
  • Comfortably recommend platform-native design choices (ie. IG-style fonts, captions, overlays) even when less “designed”
  • Optimize edits for both organic and paid use when needed
  • Collaboration & Iteration
  • Work closely with our design team to ensure brand alignment
  • Take feedback from Big Human and client stakeholders
  • Iterate efficiently
  • Deliver final assets that are client-ready and on brief
