About The Position

The Freedom Schools Servant Leader Intern (SLI) plays a vital role in fostering a positive, enriching, and academically stimulating summer learning environment for scholars in the Freedom Schools Summer Movement Program. This position requires direct oversight and engagement with students, implementation of the Integrated Reading Curriculum, and collaboration with fellow staff members to support a structured and nurturing learning environment.

Requirements

  • Must have completed at least one year of college and have plans to complete a degree (typical age range: 18-30).
  • Maintain or have graduated with at least a 0 GPA .
  • Ability to motivate others and work effectively as part of an intergenerational team.
  • Strong appreciation and understanding of cultural diversity , with a respectful and open-minded approach to different backgrounds.
  • Solid commitment to the success and well-being of children .
  • Excellent written and verbal communication
  • Ability to model mature, professional, and positive behavior at all times.

Responsibilities

  • Serving as a positive role model for all students.
  • Supervising and ensuring the safety of students at all times.
  • Maintaining professionalism at all times, both locally and while attending national training.
  • Setting up, managing, and breaking down classroom spaces according to CDF standards.
  • Engaging and teaching a maximum of 10 students per class using the Integrated Reading Curriculum as outlined by CDF.
  • Attending all required local and national training sessions .
  • Leading Harambee sessions, afternoon activities, and chaperoning field trips .
  • Collaborating with staff to maintain a supportive and structured learning environment .
  • Actively engaging students during meal times and structured recess .
  • Partnering with the Site Coordinator to plan and implement the National Day of Social Action , parent engagement activities, and additional enrichment opportunities.
  • Reporting student-related issues or concerns to the Site Coordinator
