About The Position

Basis builds real agents that do real work in the real economy. Our agents operate for hours at a time, performing end-to-end work for some of the largest accounting firms in the world. We recently raised $100M at >$1B valuation and are racing to deploy the most advanced applied ML at production scale. “The team you build is the company you build.” People are the most important part of any company, and we believe that very strongly at Basis. Basis has ~100 now and is growing quickly. We are looking for our first dedicated People hire to take ownership of building out the People / HR function. You'll take ownership of the full employee lifecycle and build systems that compound - from onboarding to performance management to manager training to compensation to operations. You’ll be the go-to person for everyone at the company on people topics. The role requires a rare combination of someone who can toggle between operational rigor and human judgment, someone who can build systematically and is also the person the rest of the team actually wants to talk to.

Requirements

  • High EQ, high operational rigor. You can hold space for a hard conversation and tighten up a workflow in the same afternoon. People trust you because you're both competent and human.
  • Comfortable wearing many hats. This is a one-person function today. You'll context-switch constantly and thrive doing it.
  • Builder mindset. You're thinking about what this function looks like at 500 people and laying the groundwork now.
  • In person in our Flatiron office, 5 days a week. There is no more effective way to maintain a culture than face-to-face! We hope you’re a people person :)
