We use machine learning models to build massive, detailed, interactive 3D models of electricity grids, totalling over ten million poles across four continents. By running detailed structural simulations on these digital twins, we can: Predict how natural disasters and extreme weather will affect the grid Identify their physical and mechanical weaknesses Design and construct more efficient ways to operate power systems Calculate optimal grid investment and upgrade strategies to accelerate the energy transition globally Some of the world’s largest utilities depend on Neara to answer their most pressing investment, disaster management, and strategic questions across risk, safety, resiliency, and more. Our software stands apart by uniquely mixing engineering-grade detail with network-wide scale. Our ambition is to redefine the future of critical infrastructure intelligence. We need smart, creative, driven people to help us achieve it. We are seeking a Forward Deployed Engineer to be the technical expert for our most strategic enterprise customers. This role is a critical blend of technical consulting and hands-on software development. You will be embedded with our customers, designing and building custom, high-impact solutions on and integrated with the Neara platform to unlock new capabilities, automate complex workflows, and drive maximum business value. You will be the primary technical architect responsible for the creation of tailored customer solutions, working directly with customer engineers and business stakeholders. You are a developer and consultant rolled into one: a proactive problem-solver with a knack for communicating complex technical concepts to diverse audiences.

Requirements

  • Strong experience in Typescript and Javascript development. Proficient with modern development tools (git, Node, npm, terminal/command line).
  • Proven ability to rapidly understand and utilize proprietary SDKs and RESTful APIs (following the OpenAPI Specification) to build robust, integrated solutions.
  • Experience in customer-facing roles, designing and delivering custom technical solutions for enterprise-level SaaS deployments, ideally from a consulting, software engineering, solutions architecture, or forward-deployed engineering background.
  • Skilled in data analysis, integration, and building tailored tools (e.g., macros, data pipelines) to deliver maximum customer value.
  • Exceptional ability to communicate complex technical topics clearly to both engineers and executives, driving consensus and empowering customers.

Responsibilities

  • Actively use the Neara SDK and our platform's APIs to develop custom solutions that extend the platform's functionality. This includes:
  • Building custom, high-impact features using the Neara SDK, which will involve writing code in Typescript/Javascript and our platform's declarative scripting language to automate project changes, integrate real-time third-party data, and manipulate the network model.
  • Developing custom visualizations, calculations, and advanced data analysis features.
  • Creating tailored user interface elements to simplify and automate complex user workflows.
  • Building robust integrations using our platform's APIs to synchronize project data with external enterprise systems.
  • Serve as the trusted deep technical advisor to customers, translating complex business needs into clear, actionable technical designs and implementation strategies.
  • Lead targeted, hands-on training and workshops focused on the Neara SDK, API, and best practices for custom solution development, ensuring customers can maintain and evolve the solutions you build.
  • Work closely with adjacent teams to identify emerging customer needs and strategic opportunities for leveraging custom development to fuel account growth.
  • Lead configuration, reporting, and data integration efforts to ensure the Neara platform is meticulously aligned with the customer's technical environment and strategic priorities.

Benefits

  • A highly competitive compensation package, including a significant equity component, ensuring you directly benefit from the company's success and your impact on critical infrastructure.
  • The rare opportunity to work on a cutting-edge, 3D physics-enabled platform that is preventing disasters and shaping the future of resilient infrastructure.
  • This role is a direct path to becoming a highly sought-after technical leader, bridging software engineering, deep technical consulting, and solution architecture for enterprise customers.
  • You won't just use our platform; you'll shape its evolution by feeding real-world enterprise needs directly back into the product roadmap.
  • Enjoy flexible hours and working arrangements designed to help you do your best work from where you work best.
