About The Position

TL;DR — We’re building humanity’s defense layer for the AI age and looking for our founding Forward Deployed Engineer to turn ground truths into product victories. If you want to invent new categories, not just improve existing ones—this is that role. Why Sweep? As intelligent machines proliferate into every part of the physical world, humans still lack a defense layer to ensure the systems and devices we rely on remain aligned with us. We’re creating that layer today by deploying Sweep alongside the world’s highest-stakes teams—from world leaders and elite market-movers to frontline journalists, chart-topping artists, record-breaking athletes, and reality-bending scientists—to protect them against threats in the most sensor-contested environments. What we learn there becomes the foundation for a civilization-defining capability. We’re a small, talent-dense team with a bias for high ownership, high velocity, and low ego. We care deeply, move fast, and are here to build something that outlives us. As a Forward Deployed Engineer (Dual-Use), you’ll be a founding member of Sweep’s forward-deployed function, working directly with high-risk government and civilian partners to translate ground truths into product improvements that compound over time. Together, we’ll redefine cyber-physical security for the AI age. What makes this role special? Be the first Forward Deployed Engineer at Sweep. Create a new function at the intersection of engineering, product, customer success, and research. Operate discreetly with Bletchley-Park intensity—where feedback is rapid, consequences are real, and the places you work from you might never discuss, but will never forget Partner with elite teams challenging never-seen-before cyber risks. Influence our core product direction and technical roadmap.

Requirements

  • 5+ years building and shipping production software.
  • Strong architectural thinking across frontend, backend, data, and infrastructure.
  • Ability to rapidly prototype, experiment, and learn from real usage.
  • Hands-on experience with BLE, Wi-Fi (802.11), RF, and device-level exploration in dense, noisy signal environments.
  • Clear communication—turning field observations into concrete product changes.
  • U.S. Person status required (may involve export-controlled data).

Nice To Haves

  • Worked with SDRs, packet capture, RF survey tools, or similar instrumentation.
  • Previously forward-deployed, customer-embedded, or mission-software experience in national-level sporting, entertainment, or government environments.
  • Worked with LLMs, agentic systems, or data-driven automation.
  • Hustled in a founding or early-stage startup environment.

Responsibilities

  • Work directly with customers to understand workflows, constraints, and ground truths.
  • Deploy globally for short, high-intensity engagements (~50% global travel).
  • Own projects end-to-end—from field observation → product requirement → shipped improvement.
  • Partner closely with core engineers to translate real-world behavior into durable platform capabilities.
  • Capture patterns, edge cases, and failure modes so improvements scale beyond any single deployment.
  • Shape how Forward Deployed Engineering works (rituals, playbooks, org design).
  • Contribute to core product strategy, technical decisions, and cultural foundations.

Benefits

  • Total compensation includes equity, premium insurance, and individual benefits.
