Onsite

About The Position

Chestnut Carbon is hiring two Forest Inventory Interns for the 2026 summer field season. This role offers the opportunity to gain experience in the rapidly growing voluntary forest carbon industry and in forest inventory, developing skills in assessing tree- and site-level variables and tree species identification across various forest types. Interns will support and execute forest inventory efforts for Chestnut’s Forest Restoration program, which involves planting hardwood and softwood trees on former agricultural or grazing lands, and the Improved Forest Management program, which focuses on additional carbon sequestration on existing forestland. Interns will work closely with the remote Senior Biometrician and regional forestry staff. Specific tasks include traveling to sites across Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama, establishing and collecting data from forest inventory plots, communicating with property managers for site access, and conducting due diligence checks during site visits. Chestnut Carbon is committed to long-term, real-world solutions, integrity, and transparency, developing scalable, cost-effective, and sustainable nature-based projects to help clients achieve net-zero goals. The company aims to improve society by restoring lands, strengthening ecosystem resilience, promoting biodiversity, and creating economic opportunities for local communities. Chestnut Carbon was founded and is backed by Kimmeridge, a US-based private equity firm.
