About The Position

Ariat is seeking a motivated and curious-minded Footwear Material Intern to join our innovative team. This internship offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in material development while contributing to the evolution of industry-leading products. The intern will collaborate closely with the materials team to help bring products to market while learning the complete footwear product creation process—from concept to production. Requirements

  • Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Material Science/ Textile Engineering, Textile and Fashion Design, or similar degrees.
  • Knowledge and curiosity of materials, construction, and manufacturing are preferred
  • Organized and attentive to detail, strong written and verbal communication skills, with product management experience.
  • Passionate about footwear and eager to learn from a collaborative, fast-paced team

Responsibilities

  • Overview of the Footwear Material Development process (concept to commercialization)
  • Learn Centric PLM system
  • Work with the Materials Manager on various projects to learn about different materials and manufacturing processes
  • Hands-on projects in the materials library to support the footwear Product Creation Team
  • Gain understanding of the material development process, including color approvals, development tracking, and physical testing requirements for various footwear materials.
  • Learn how material choices impact fit, costing, and performance of different types of footwear.
  • Leather 101, an introduction to leather making from tanning to finishing, and an understanding of raw material sourcing
  • Participation in team meetings and presentation of work as required.
  • Present internship goals and outcomes to the team at the conclusion of the program.
  • Gain an in-depth understanding of the footwear industry, including material development.
  • Learn the full lifecycle of material development, from concept to commercialization
  • Develop new materials throughout the seasonal process.
