About The Position

The Food Service Supervisor is responsible for overseeing and coordinating the operations of various food service locations, primarily a mobile food truck, across local installations. This role involves supervising food service associates (grades NA-2 to NA-5), ensuring their training, and managing daily operations including planning, scheduling, and task assignment. The supervisor is also responsible for maintaining equipment and supplies, handling administrative tasks such as reports and correspondence, and ensuring continuity of operations in the absence of a higher-level supervisor. A key aspect of the role is upholding Navy Exchange Customer Service standards, which includes maintaining a professional appearance, providing courteous and prompt service, and handling customer interactions effectively. The position operates under the general supervision of a designated supervisor, with work reviewed for efficiency and quality. The supervisor also contributes to performance appraisals, addresses informal complaints, and supports EEO policies.

Requirements

  • Must possess a valid driver's license or a valid commercial driver's license (CDL).
  • Must possess the knowledge and skills necessary to operate a motor vehicle safely.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain Food Certificate.
  • Twelve months experience performing cafeteria or counter-type food service duties such as preparing fruit and vegetable salads, making simple sandwiches, and coffee in large urns, setting up food service counters/steam tables, receiving customer orders and serving customers, operating a cash register, computing charge, performing cleaning duties (scraping, staking, and preparing dishes for dishwasher, keeping counters, steam table, and other equipment/appliances clean) or similar work that provided the knowledge and skills to perform the duties of the position.

Responsibilities

  • Supervising and coordinating the operation of the various locations throughout the various local installations.
  • Supervising associates predominately in grades ranging from NA-2 to NA-5 performing work on a mobile food truck.
  • Ensuring necessary training of subordinate staff in various operations.
  • Planning and scheduling sequence of operations and establishing required priorities for subordinates in assigned area.
  • Selecting workers and tasks to be performed.
  • Coordinating as necessary with appropriate area and or location in connection with availability of personnel.
  • Explaining work requirements and new procedures and providing advice when problems occur.
  • Reviewing work for overall adequacy, timeliness, and compliance with established procedures.
  • Determining equipment, supplies, and maintenance required and assuring adequacy of supplies and equipment as needed.
  • Completing a variety of correspondence and reports in connection with the food service operation.
  • Providing information pertaining to the various operations and otherwise assisting in administrative matters relating to the food service operation.
  • Providing continuity of all mobile food truck operations in the absence of the supervisor.
  • Adhering to Navy Exchange Customer Service standards by maintaining a neat, clean appearance and wearing appropriate uniform name tag as required.
  • Exercising tact, good manners, and courtesy when serving and assisting customers.
  • Suggesting substitutes when items are not available and informing customers of specials.
  • Providing service in a prompt and friendly manner ensuring that the food items are presented in an attractive and appetizing way.
  • Furnishing each customer with a register receipt and thanking the customer for their patronage.
  • Recommending performance requirements and providing input regarding performance appraisals.
  • Adjusting informal complaints through discussion with associates or as applicable union representatives.
  • Initiating proposals for disciplinary action as needed.
  • Carrying out EEO policies and communicating support of these principles to subordinates.
  • Performing other related duties as assigned.
