We’re looking for a hands-on Food Safety & Quality Assurance (FSQA) Manager to lead, develop, and maintain our food safety and quality systems. This role ensures compliance with regulatory, customer, and certification requirements while fostering a strong food safety culture across our facility. The FSQA Manager will oversee FSMA Preventive Controls, SQF/GFSI programs, and internal quality systems, driving continuous improvement and operational excellence. You are a proactive, detailed‑driven Food Safety & Quality Assurance leader who ensures every product leaving the bakery is safe, consistent, and compliant with the highest industry standards. You combine deep knowledge of food microbiology, regulatory requirements, and baking‑process controls with a hands‑on, floor‑focused leadership style. You build strong cross‑functional partnerships with Production, Sanitation, Maintenance, and R&D to prevent issues before they occur, strengthen process capability, and drive a culture where food safety is non‑negotiable. You thrive in fast‑paced, high‑volume bakery environments where precision, documentation, and continuous improvement directly impact product quality and brand trust. Above all, you champion consumer safety, operational excellence, and a mindset of accountability at every step of the baking process.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Microbiology, Biology, Chemistry, or a related field.
  • 3–5 years of experience in food safety and quality within a food manufacturing environment.
  • Certified Preventive Controls Qualified Individual (PCQI) through an FSPCA-recognized course.
  • Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for employer sponsorship now or in the future.”
  • Knowledge of FDA regulations (21 CFR 117).
  • Strong problem-solving, root cause analysis, and decision-making skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication.
  • Ability to influence and collaborate across teams and senior leadership.

Nice To Haves

  • SQF Practitioner or Lead Auditor Certification.
  • Experience leading regulatory and SQF/GFSI audits.
  • Familiarity with organic, gluten-free, and RSPO certification standards.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and maintain the Food Safety Plan and prerequisite programs in compliance with FSMA and FDA regulations.
  • Ensure regulatory compliance (FDA, USDA if applicable, state, and local).
  • Maintain SQF, Organic, Gluten-Free, and RSPO certification standards, including audit readiness and corrective actions.
  • Oversee document control, record retention, and product traceability systems.
  • Manage finished product, in-process, and environmental monitoring programs.
  • Approve product dispositions, deviations, and risk assessments.
  • Investigate customer complaints and implement corrective actions.
  • Support customer quality audits, documentation requests, and compliance requirements.
  • Lead, coach, and develop FSQA and sanitation teams.
  • Conduct food safety and quality training for all employees.
  • Promote a strong food safety culture throughout the organization.
  • Establish and track KPIs for food safety, quality, and compliance.
  • Lead root cause analysis, CAPAs, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Support new production lines, product launches, and process changes with risk assessments and validations.
  • Extended periods of walking and standing (up to 8–12 hours/day).
  • Ability to lift/move up to 50 lbs occasionally.
  • Ability to work in varying temperatures and noise levels typical of a manufacturing environment.
  • Wear required PPE for long periods (hair/beard nets, gloves, safety glasses, steel-toed shoes, lab coats, hearing protection).
