Fluids Systems Engineer

General MatterLos Angeles, CA
2d$90,000 - $175,000

About The Position

General Matter is enriching uranium in America. Our mission is to restore our country’s ability to make nuclear fuel. Our fuel will help power AI, manufacturing, and other critical industries. It will power our next generation of reactors. Ultimately, it will power our national ambitions. We were incubated by Founders Fund, like Anduril and Palantir before us, and we are backed by top tier investors. Our lean, world-class team of engineers and operators is applying a first-principles approach to solving the problem of nuclear fuel production. We are a mission-driven company with a culture of urgency, accountability and transparency. We are seeking a Fluid Systems Engineer to lead the design, analysis, and deployment of fluid systems for our uranium enrichment facility. This role is responsible for developing highly reliable, manufacturable systems that move, store, and control fluids critical to enrichment operations. You will own systems from early sizing and architecture through detailed mechanical design, testing, and production ramp, working closely with manufacturing, operations, and safety teams.

Requirements

  • Evidence of exceptional ability (prior projects, portfolio of work, completed products, etc).
  • Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Engineering Physics, or a related field.
  • 1+ years of experience in mechanical or fluids system design, analysis, or hardware development.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with gas dynamics, thermal analysis, and/or finite element analysis (FEA).
  • Hands-on experience with pressurized systems (e.g., valves, regulators, piping, tubing, pressure vessels).
  • Experience owning operation-critical hardware from concept through production.
  • Proficiency with FEA tools and CAD software such as Solidworks.
  • Comfortable working across disciplines with manufacturing, safety, and operations teams.
  • Strong communication, organization, and technical leadership skills.

Responsibilities

  • Perform system-level sizing and performance analysis for fluid systems to establish requirements and operating margins.
  • Translate requirements into hardware concepts, evaluating architectures and design trades for performance, safety, and manufacturability.
  • Design pressurized and unpressurized components and assemblies, producing original CAD models, drawings, and specifications.
  • Conduct structural and mechanical analysis to ensure survivability under pressure, thermal, and operational loads.
  • Drive design-for-manufacturability improvements to enable efficient, repeatable production.
  • Lead first-article builds and work directly with manufacturing teams to establish robust production processes.
  • Plan and execute development, qualification, and acceptance testing for critical hardware.
  • Define concepts of operations for systems, from commissioning and acceptance testing through steady-state operation.
  • Participate in internal and external design reviews with cross-functional partners, suppliers, and stakeholders.

Benefits

  • long-term incentives, in the form of stock options
  • access to medical, vision & dental coverage
