This role is part of the Lunar Permanence business unit, which develops Blue Origin’s Blue Moon landers and related products. To further Blue Origin's mission of millions of people living and working in space for the benefit of Earth, we are building sustainable infrastructure for our transport of crew and cargo from Earth to the lunar surface. We are looking for a Fluids Analyst to help craft the Gas Subsystem for the Lunar Transporter spacecraft. Work will span the complete lifecycle of the gas subsystem from requirements and interface definition, through conceptual and detailed design, component selection & development, assembly, verification testing, and operations.

Requirements

  • B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field.
  • Strong understanding of Fluid Mechanics, Heat Transfer and Thermodynamics.
  • 5+ years of experience in thermal/fluids analysis.
  • Thermal Desktop FloCAD and Sinda/Fluint experience, anda strong understanding of the use of FORTRAN user-logic.
  • Experience with first order hand and excel level calculations for fluids analysis.

Nice To Haves

  • Advanced Engineering degree.
  • Prior experience on spacecraft fluid systems
  • CFD experience (ANSYS Fluent and FLOW3D preferred).
  • Experience with fluid network analysis tools such as AFT Arrow / Fathom
  • Experience analyzing cryogenic, two-phase, and gaseous fluid systems.
  • Experience with hydrogen and oxygen systems.
  • Direct experience providing feedback for design iteration and optimization.
  • Process automation experience using scripting (VBA, Matlab, Python, FORTRAN, etc.).

Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain transient fluids simulations models of the gas subsystem in the spacecraft primarily using Thermal Desktop FloCAD and Sinda/Fluint.
  • Provide guidance on optimizing hardware configuration, mission conops and control logic.
  • Help to inform requirements definition and plan testing effort to validate hardware behavior and performance in relevant environments.
  • Lead trade studies across the Gas Subsystem and other Subsystems.
  • Support complete life cycle of the Transporter vehicle from initial definition, conceptual design, detailed design, test support, verification, and in-flight operation.
