About The Position

The Highlands Ranch Metro District is looking for a skilled and motivated Fleet Technician to join our Parks, Recreation, and Open Space Department. In this role, you will play a vital part in maintaining and repairing a wide range of vehicles and equipment, including small engines, light and medium-duty vehicles, and heavy machinery. Additionally, you will contribute to custom fabrication projects and vehicle/equipment up-fitting to meet operational needs. Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent, with specific education in the automotive technology field.
  • Some automotive/fleet maintenance experience.
  • General working knowledge of welding.
  • A working knowledge of hazards and safety precautions common to automotive maintenance and repair.
  • Must possess a valid Colorado State driver’s license and required to obtain a Class ‘B’ CDL license after employment.
  • Successfully obtain ASE certification in breaks within 12 months of hire.
  • CPR and 1st Aid certification within 12 months of hire.
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent, with specific education in the automotive technology field.
  • Three (3) years of automotive fleet maintenance experience.
  • Combination of education and experience to meet qualification accepted.
  • Considerable working knowledge of automotive technologies.
  • Working knowledge of welding, quality of materials and equipment.
  • Working knowledge of hazards and safety precautions common to the automotive maintenance and repair activities.
  • Working knowledge of the practices, methods, materials, and tools used in modern equipment maintenance.
  • Comprehensive understanding and ability to perform vehicle and equipment recoveries.
  • A working knowledge of hazards and safety precautions common to automotive maintenance and repair.

Responsibilities

  • Complies with established safety policies, procedures, and guidelines to ensure the safety of self, co-workers, community residents, and visitors.
  • Provide quality internal and external customer service, through the development of relationships with staff, contractors, community members and various organizations.
  • Takes direction from the Fleet Supervisor and Technician III in prioritizing daily work.
  • Maintains a professional and effective working relationship with employees, supervisors, vendors, and the public.
  • Assists with maintaining inventory, including parts and shop supplies used for servicing vehicles and equipment.
  • Repair vehicles and equipment using a variety of hand tools/shop tools, including electric and pneumatic power tools.
  • Services and repairs all aspects of vehicle and equipment repair, including some understanding of engine performance and repair, brakes, suspension and steering, electrical electronics, heating and air conditioning, automatic and manual drivetrains, and hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
  • Track work orders using web-based software (Asset Essentials).
  • Assists with vehicle and equipment recoveries.
  • Assists with customized up-fitting of vehicles and equipment to meet user needs and strictly follows NHTSA and NTEA standards. Up-fittings include steel, stainless steel, and aluminum fabrication and welding.
  • Assists with shop and on-site welding, fabrication, and repair projects using various types of metals. Competently welding metal inert gas (MIG), tungsten inert gas (TIG), and Stick formats to maintain a high standard of safety for public and staff.
  • Assists with maintaining manual and personal computer-based records for vehicles/equipment reports.
  • This position is on-call as part of the snow removal program, required to report as needed to support equipment needs for snow removal.
  • Collaborates professionally with other Section, Division, Department and District employees.
  • May be assigned to serve as a member on various employee committees.
  • May be assigned to support other sections with duties as assigned.
  • Proficiently track work orders using web-based software (Asset Essentials) including completion of work orders/projects in the system.
  • Purchase and inventory, parts and shop supplies for servicing vehicles and equipment. Track in Asset Essentials as needed.
  • Perform vehicle and equipment recoveries.
  • Performs customized up-fitting of vehicles and equipment to meet user needs and strictly follows NHTSA and NTEA standards. Up-fittings include steel, stainless steel, aluminum fabrication and welding, and designing and building complex electrical circuit and hydraulic systems.
  • Performs shop and on-site welding, fabrication, and repair projects using various types of metals. Competently weld using metal inert gas (MIG), tungsten inert gas (TIG), and Stick formats while maintaining a high standard of safety for public and staff.
  • Maintains the records for vehicle/equipment reports and logs.
  • Assists the Fleet Supervisor in acquiring procurement information and reports.
  • Some administrative duties as assigned.
  • Mentor and train other Fleet employees as needed.
