About The Position

The Fleet Specialist is responsible for strategic and operational oversight of the company's fleet of vehicles, trailers, tools and equipment. This role involves development of the organization’s fleet management strategy, Capital asset and liquidation efforts, managing inventory, coordinating maintenance and repairs, ensuring compliance with regulations, and optimizing fleet performance. Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in business administration, logistics, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in fleet management or a similar role. Knowledge of construction field operations and how to utilize construction equipment and tools to increase productivity
  • Knowledge of fleet management software and systems.
  • Strong organizational and multitasking skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
  • Familiarity with regulatory requirements for vehicle operations.
  • Certification in fleet management or related field.
  • Experience with telematics systems for vehicle tracking and monitoring.
  • Knowledge of environmental and sustainability practices in fleet operations.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in development of overall yearly fleet management strategy.
  • Develop strategy and supporting policies and processes to maximize profitability to company by purchasing and then liquidating equipment/vehicle assets at the optimal point in equipment lifecycle.
  • Develop a strategy for storing and maintaining equipment in geographic locations that results in the least cost to the company with the highest possible utilization.
  • Develop strategy to procure, maintain and replace small tools across all businesses per their requirements with an emphasis on standardization in order to gain economies of scale when procuring.
  • Ensure all vehicles and equipment comply with safety, emissions, and other regulatory requirements including, but not limited to OSHA, EPA and DOT requirements.
  • Develop, implement and maintain a listing of all critical lifting and electrical testing/installation apparatus that require mandatory interval testing and insure that this equipment always meets regulatory requirements.
  • Stay updated on relevant regulations and standards governing fleet operations.
  • Ensure fleet is properly aligned with DOT requirements to maintain compliance.
  • Ability to safely operate any and all company assets (vehicles, heavy equipment, etc)
  • Ability to assist training on the safe operation of all company assets.
  • Work with safety and insurance personnel to resolve any equipment damage claims as well as participate in root cause investigations related to incidents involving Company owned or rented equipment.
  • Maintain accurate records of all company vehicles, including registration, insurance, and maintenance history.
  • Understand and coordinate specific site needs and be able to make recommendations on equipment type, size and rent versus own to assist in meeting cost, schedule, quality and safety needs at job sites.
  • Support scheduling routine maintenance and inspections for all fleet equipment.
  • Coordinate repairs and servicing with external vendors or in-house mechanics.
  • Skillset on a computer to use technology as an efficient means of fleet support.
  • Knowledge of equipment components and maintenance of components to ensure proper equipment is delivered to projects and assist in diagnosis of issues and prevent future issues.
  • Provide expertise and input to the Company Training Coordinator and Safety Manager to assist in development of curriculum and training content related to safe working operations for all Company owned and rented equipment.
  • Develop relationships with equipment/vehicle manufacturers and tool suppliers to leverage knowledge of the industry and assist in reducing expenditures
  • Understand, monitor, and control fleet-related expenses, including capital expenditures, maintenance, repairs, and fuel costs.
  • Prepare and maintain budgets for vehicle acquisition, maintenance, and operating costs.
  • Analyze data to identify trends, areas for improvement, and opportunities to enhance fleet efficiency.
  • Provide recommendations to management based on analysis and insights.
  • Ensure timely completion of maintenance tasks to minimize downtime.
  • Maintain documentation and records to demonstrate compliance with regulations.
  • Monitor fuel usage, mileage, and vehicle utilization to optimize fleet efficiency.
  • Coordinate vehicle acquisitions, disposals, and transfers as needed.
  • Properly manage the Company fleet provider as they support the day-to-day fleet needs.
  • Participate with the Babcock Power corporate team to improve vehicle policies and standards related to Fleet needs across the various companies.
