About The Position

The Flavor Lab Technician supports the development, evaluation, and quality control of flavor formulations for use in food, beverage, or dietary supplement products. This role involves preparing flavor samples, conducting sensory and analytical tests, and maintaining documentation to ensure consistency, regulatory compliance, and innovation in flavor development.

Requirements

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Chemistry, or a related field.
  • 1–2 years of experience in a flavor lab, food & beverage R&D lab, or related setting preferred.
  • Strong sensory acuity and ability to describe flavor and aroma characteristics clearly.
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Excel, Word); experience with LIMS or formulation software is a plus.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and communicate effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods and perform repetitive tasks.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds occasionally.
  • Must be able to work in a laboratory environment with exposure to chemicals and biohazards.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with flavor compounding, essential oils, and aroma chemicals is highly desirable.
  • Knowledge of GMP, GLP, and flavor regulatory guidelines (e.g., FEMA GRAS, CFR) is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare, weigh, and mix flavor formulations according to specifications provided by flavor chemists or R&D teams.
  • Conduct organoleptic (sensory) evaluations and record panel feedback in a structured format.
  • Perform basic analytical tests (e.g., pH, refractive index, viscosity) to evaluate flavor properties.
  • Accurately document formulations, batch records, and test results using lab notebooks or digital systems (e.g., LIMS).
  • Maintain an organized flavor library, including labeling, inventory, and storage of raw materials and samples.
  • Clean and sanitize lab equipment and maintain a safe, orderly laboratory environment.
  • Assist with stability testing and shelf-life studies of flavor systems in various product matrices.
  • Support cross-functional projects involving QA, production, and regulatory compliance.
  • Calibrate and maintain lab instruments as scheduled.
  • Follow all internal safety, GMP, and GLP protocols when handling chemicals and equipment.
