Job SummaryThe First Grade Teacher is responsible for fostering the spiritual, academic, and social development of young learners in a faith-centered environment. This role builds foundational skills in reading, writing, math, and religion while nurturing a love of learning and growth in Catholic values.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education or related field
  • Valid state teaching certification (preferred or required depending on school/diocese)
  • Experience working with early elementary students preferred
  • Practicing Catholic preferred or willingness to support the mission of Catholic education
  • Completion of background check and diocesan safe environment training

Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver developmentally appropriate instruction in reading, phonics, writing, math, religion, and other core subjects
  • Integrate Catholic teachings, prayer, and values into daily lessons and classroom routines
  • Create a structured, nurturing, and Christ-centered classroom environment
  • Lead students in daily prayer and participate in Mass, liturgies, and religious celebrations
  • Support early literacy development, including phonemic awareness and reading comprehension
  • Use hands-on, interactive, and differentiated instructional strategies
  • Assess student progress through observations, assessments, and student work
  • Maintain accurate records of grades, progress, and attendance
  • Communicate regularly with parents/guardians regarding student development and needs
  • Promote positive behavior and social skills such as kindness, responsibility, and cooperation
  • Collaborate with colleagues and participate in meetings, professional development, and school events
  • Supervise students during non-instructional times as assigned
