Requirements

High School Diploma or GED
No previous relevant work experience is required.
No previous supervisory experience is required.
TCFP Basic Structural Firefighter Certification
DSHS Paramedic Certification
ACLS
PALS
CPR & AED
Class B Exempt Driver's License preferred
Candidates who currently hold an EMT certification may be considered; however, appointment to the position requires obtaining Paramedic certification within one year of hire.

Responsibilities

Respond promptly to fire and medical emergencies and other related support calls, assessing situations upon arrival and determining appropriate response actions.
Utilize radio, telephone, and dispatch communications to coordinate response activities.
Assess emergency situations upon arrival and determine appropriate response and mitigation actions.
Perform fire suppression tactics, rescue operations, and medical interventions as needed.
Provide emergency medical care to patients, including conducting physical exams, administering necessary medical treatments, and transporting patients to medical facilities.
Maintain compliance with all laws and regulations regarding medication storage and handling.
Complete medical reports, stock medical supplies, and document all services provided.
Perform preventative maintenance on fire fighting and medical equipment, ensuring apparatus operates properly and safely.
Identify and replace faulty parts as needed, documenting maintenance actions and reporting any issues.
Assist with fire station cleaning activities and ensure station property is well-maintained.
Prepare and maintain reports, assist in planning department objectives, and participate in meetings and activities.
Stay informed about developments in fire fighting methods and techniques, contributing to the formulation of guidelines and procedures.
Educate the community on fire safety through public inquiries, presentations, and demonstrations.
Educate the community about fire safety by responding to inquiries, presenting fire safety tips to schools and businesses, and demonstrating proper fire extinguisher use and first aid procedures.
Assist with public tours of the fire station and participate in community outreach events as needed.
Maintain firefighting and paramedic certifications through participation in continuing education programs.
Attend training sessions to enhance medical, firefighting, driving, and computer skills.
Adhere to work schedule and attendance requirements to ensure readiness for emergency response.
Contribute to the team effort by performing other related duties as assigned.
