About The Position

North Summit Fire District is currently seeking qualified and motivated applicants for the position of Firefighter II/Paramedic . This is a full-time, FLSA non-exempt position that plays a critical role in protecting life and property through fire suppression, advanced emergency medical care, public education, and community risk reduction. Position Summary Under the supervision of a Captain and in accordance with Utah law and NSFD policies, the Firefighter II/Paramedic performs firefighting, emergency medical services, rescue operations, and related duties. This position also assists in coordinating and supervising Firefighters as assigned and supports the maintenance of district facilities, equipment, and apparatus.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Minimum 18 years of age
  • Utah Firefighter II certification
  • Utah Hazmat Operations certification
  • NWCG Firefighter II (Red Card) certification
  • NREMT Paramedic (or higher) certification
  • American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) Instructor
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
  • IS-100, IS-200, IS-700, and IS-800
  • Valid driver's license (or ability to obtain upon employment) with a stable driving history
  • No felony convictions or disqualifying criminal history within the past seven years
  • Ability to pass a criminal background check and drug screen
  • U.S. citizenship or proof of legal work authorization
  • Ability to perform strenuous, sustained physical activity under extreme conditions, including heat, cold, smoke, heights, and hazardous environments.
  • Frequently lift up to 50 lbs; occasionally lift 185+ lbs
  • Participate in the NSFD Physical Agility Test (P.A.T.)
  • Work outdoors in varying weather conditions
  • Exposure to noise, hazardous materials, and emergency environments

Responsibilities

  • Perform firefighting activities, including pump operations, hose deployment, salvage operations, and fire suppression
  • Drive light fire apparatus (brush trucks/support vehicles)
  • Respond to medical emergencies and provide advanced life support patient care
  • Assist in the coordination, instruction, and supervision of Firefighters as assigned
  • Participate in drills, training, and continuing education (fire, EMS, hazmat, and related areas)
  • Conduct pre-plans, hydrant inspections, and building inspections
  • Maintain apparatus, equipment, and fire facilities
  • Perform general station and grounds maintenance
  • Deliver public education programs on fire prevention and safety
  • Participate in physical fitness training to maintain operational readiness
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Fire Chief or administration
