Firefighter Paramedic We are seeking motivated, community-minded Paramedics who demonstrate integrity, professionalism, and a strong commitment to service. You must hold current National Registry and State of Colorado Paramedic certificates to be considered. Have your cert numbers handy and enter them were prompted. Dates Event Feb 20 - Feb 28 Application Window May 19 - June 4 Skills Assessment and Interviews Position Summary: The Firefighter Paramedic performs firefighting and emergency medical life support procedures in accordance with the district's rules, policies, procedures, and identified pre-hospital protocols including but not limited to, the Member Handbook and SOGs.

Requirements

Possess a high school diploma or G.E.D.
Possess and maintain a valid state issued driver's license and a safe driving record. State of Colorado license required within 60 days of hire.
Possess and maintain a current CPR card at the Healthcare Provider/Professional Rescuer Level.
Possess and maintain a current State of Colorado EMT-P (Paramedic) and National Registry Paramedic Certifications or licenses
Possess and maintain a current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) or Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) EP Certification
Possess and maintain a current Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) Certification.
Satisfactory completion of an approved fire academy.
Satisfactory completion of the district’s EMS Field Instruction Program.
Satisfactory completion of the Probationary Firefighter Task Book.
Fire Certs may be obtained through Arvada Fire approved fire academy.
CMBC, IFSAC, or Pro Board Firefighter I certification.
CMBC, IFSAC, or Pro Board Hazardous Material Operations certificate.
Obtain within two (2) years of hire a CMBC, IFSAC, or Pro Board Firefighter II certification.
Obtain within two (2) years of hire and maintain a CMBC, IFSAC, or Pro Board DOU (Driver Operator Utility) certification.
Possess National Incident Management System (NIMS) certifications 100, 200, 700 and 800.
Knowledge of fire suppression principles, methods, techniques and practices.
Knowledge of purpose and use of various tools, equipment and apparatuses used in fire suppression.
Basic knowledge of fire codes used during inspections.
Knowledge of fire prevention topics and activities.
Knowledge of street names and locations within the district's service area.
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, routine correspondence, and memos, and ability to write basic reports and correspondence.
Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to the public and other members of the organization.
Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
Ability to read, write, speak, and understand the English language at a level adequate to perform the duties of the position.
Must pass all required physical fitness, physical ability and medical evaluations as specified by the district’s Member Handbook and SOGs.
Must be able to wear all assigned personal protective equipment.

Responsibilities

Demonstrate a comprehensive knowledge of and adherence to the district's rules, policies and procedures that pertain to the Operations Division specifically and the district generally, including but not limited to the rules, policies and procedures contained in the district's Member Handbook, Payroll Procedures Manual and Standard Operating Guidelines.
Provide firefighting, rescue, and advanced and basic life support at emergency scenes.
Assist in removal of victims from hazardous situations.
Check all personal gear, assigned vehicles, equipment and tools to ensure safe and effective operation.
Account for medical supplies, equipment and medication on assigned apparatus.
Respond to alarms of fire or other emergency, including laying, connecting, and using hose and nozzles to direct a water stream, raising and climbing ladders, and using fire extinguishers, bars, hooks, lines, pike poles, halligans, saws, extrication tools and appliances, and other equipment safely, efficiently and in accordance with the district's rules, policies, procedures and SOGs.
Promptly and efficiently respond to the scene of an emergency with due regard to traffic safety and in accordance with State law and the district's rules, policies and procedures, including its SOGs, regarding the operation of emergency vehicles.
Operate apparatus, including fire engines, ladder trucks, ambulances and brush units safely, efficiently and in accordance with the district's rules, policies, procedures and SOGs.
Evaluate the signs and symptoms of fire and accident victims and perform ALS and BLS treatment in accordance with, and subject to the limitations of, the district’s identified pre-hospital protocols, including but not limited to defibrillation, cardioversion, IV therapy, drug administration, cardiac monitoring, cricothyrotomy, chest decompression, pacing, and IO insertion - as appropriate for certification level.
Prepare necessary reports after evaluating and treating patients.
Comply with federal, state, and local licensing and certification statutes and regulations.
Comply with the district’s identified pre-hospital protocols regarding patient care and intervention.
Perform emergency medical acts consistent with and not to exceed those defined in the Colorado Board of Health Rules including 6 CCR 1015-3 Emergency Medical Services Chapter 2.
Work under the supervision and license of the district's Physician Medical Director.
Maintain familiarity with grid maps and related streets and roads within the district's service area.
Participate in the exchange of information between off-going and on-coming shifts and in crew meetings as necessary.
Participate in all scheduled and assigned training classes and prevention activities.
Develop and maintain positive, effective working relationships with district employees, volunteers, district residents, other governmental agencies and the community.
Maintain positive and constructive written and oral communication skills at all times.
