The Firefighter/EMT-Basic is a sworn firefighting position. Upon acceptance, the selected applicant must pass an NFPA 1583 physical and will be required to pass this physical annually, along with annual physical assessments. The Firefighter/EMT-Basic will be assigned to a shift and station. While on shift, they are expected to continue training, respond to emergencies, complete apparatus and facility checks, keep equipment stocked and maintained, and perform all other duties assigned by their designated Captain. The Firefighter/EMT-Basic will also serve as the driver operator during the shift, operating a variety of firefighting apparatus. Additionally, they will assist with public relations and other tasks assigned by the Fire Chief or designee. This position follows a 48-hour on-duty/96-hour off-duty schedule. Employees must perform all duties with minimal supervision and may be required to work irregular hours and attend job-related meetings both in and out of town.
