About The Position

Coffman Engineers is seeking an Entry Level Fire Protection Engineer to join our Downtown Los Angeles office. You will support our fire protection engineering team automatic suppression system design; fire detection, alarm and mass notification system design; code analysis; egress analysis; fire resistant construction analysis; smoke control analysis; as well as general fire protection and life safety concepts and research. The ideal candidate should have a desire to work and grow as a team player within our Fire Protection department.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree (B.S.) from accredited college or university in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Fire Protection Engineering, Fire Sciences, or related engineering field
  • 0-1 years of professional fire protection engineering experience
  • Self-starter, persistent, and able to follow through in a consistent manner
  • Passionate about the client or pursuit and takes ownership of his/her work
  • Able to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong critical thinking, organizational, and analytical abilities
  • Ability to maintain positive working relationships with internal and external customers
  • Basic understanding of A/E/C industry terminology and procedures
  • Strong organizational ability and detail oriented
  • Capable of working well under pressure
  • Positive contributor to overall office and department goals, culture, and morale
  • Excellent time management skills

Nice To Haves

  • Passed or scheduled to take the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam
  • Bachelor’s Degree from a local university is a plus
  • Internship, co-op, or undergraduate research experience related to building systems, fire protection, or life safety
  • Basic experience with AutoCAD and/or Revit
  • Experience working in a collaborative team environment
  • Academic or extracurricular leadership experience
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
