About The Position

Greater Naples Fire Rescue District is committed to protecting life, property, and the environment through fire prevention, education, and enforcement. We are currently seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Fire Inspector I to join our Investigative Section. This is an entry-level, full-time position that plays a vital role in ensuring compliance with fire codes and promoting life safety throughout the community. Position Overview The Fire Inspector I is responsible for performing fire and life safety inspections, assisting in public education efforts, reviewing building plans, and supporting code enforcement activities. The role requires strong communication skills, sound judgment, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively with District staff, contractors, engineers, and community members.

Requirements

  • Must possess and maintain State of Florida Fire Inspector certification .
  • Valid Florida Driver License (appropriate class for District vehicles).
  • Computer proficiency required; experience with fire inspection software preferred.
  • Knowledge of federal, state, and local fire codes, ordinances, and standards.
  • Ability to handle confidential information appropriately.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proven ability to work independently in the field and exercise sound judgment.
  • Commitment to continued professional development through training, seminars, and conferences.
  • Ability to carry/wear inspection equipment (5–25 lbs.)
  • Ability to climb stairs/ladders, crawl into confined spaces, and remove ceiling tiles during inspections.
  • Tolerate various environmental conditions, including heat, humidity, rain, and confined spaces.
  • Stand or walk for extended periods while conducting inspections.
  • Strong knowledge of fire prevention practices and inspection procedures.
  • Ability to apply mathematical concepts (fractions, percentages, ratios, proportions) to practical situations.
  • Ability to respond effectively to inquiries and complaints from the public and business community.
  • Team-oriented with the ability to maintain positive morale among District personnel.
  • Excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills under pressure.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct inspections of new and existing buildings to ensure compliance with fire codes and life safety standards.
  • Review commercial building plans in coordination with planning, building, and development agencies.
  • Prepare inspection reports, records, and correspondence in a timely manner.
  • Maintain assigned vehicle and equipment in a state of operational readiness.
  • Attend meetings with architects, contractors, developers, and members of the public as needed.
  • Provide recommendations for fire and life safety equipment needs during the budget process.
  • Support fire prevention programs and public education initiatives.
