About the role The Fire Assay Loader will conduct routine and non-routine analyses of geological samples, fusion, and cupellation

Requirements

  • Familiarity with all fire assay methods and their respective digestion volumes and finish methods
  • Strong analytical and mechanical skills
  • Organized and highly motivated individual
  • Detail oriented individual
  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team
  • Ability to effectively handle a high volume of work and time critical issues
  • Basic English communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Safety oriented
  • Minimum of 1 year laboratory Fire Assay experience in a production oriented environment required; OR Diploma or Degree in Science required, with a concentration in Chemistry or Chemical Sciences preferred
  • Requires occasional lifting of 50 pounds
  • Ability to lift up to 50lbs
  • Ability to work within a hot and dusty environment
  • Clean shaven for Personal Protective Equipment (respirator)
  • Ability to stand and/or sit for up to 7.5 hours per day
  • Manual dexterity to perform repetitive tasks
  • Ability to sit at a desk and do general office work, which includes periodic sedentary responsibilities

  • Computer knowledge would be an asset

Responsibilities

  • Crucible management and set up/prepare samples for fusion
  • Perform fusion and cupellation processes using furnace tools
  • Follow up on rush priority workloads
  • Ensure all safe work procedures and standard working procedures are strictly adhered to
  • Maintain and organize departmental inventory, such as supplies and chemicals
  • Ensure cleaning and maintenance schedules are complete
  • Use correct methods in accordance with the established procedures and schedules while ensuring analytical quality
  • Observe established safety regulations and comply with all ALS health and safety policies and procedures
  • Other duties as assigned.
