About The Position

R1 is a leading provider of technology-driven solutions for patient experience and financial performance in healthcare. This position is IN PERSON at a hospital and may require vaccinations. It operates on a PRN (as needed) schedule, requiring at least two days a week during weekdays. As an R1 Financial Counseling Associate, you will counsel uninsured and under-insured patients to secure funding for their medical services. This involves compassionately explaining financial options and obligations directly to patients. The role demands excellent customer service, attention to detail, multitasking, navigating multiple systems, and authentic communication to build trust. You will need a thorough understanding of Medicaid and other funding programs to provide clear information. You will help patients navigate difficult times by reducing financial burdens related to medical care, and will be exposed to illness and injuries. Requirements include being up to date on vaccinations, passing a drug test, and a background check. It is a fast-paced environment requiring effective and efficient communication of complex coverage enrollment information and assistance with applications. Requirements

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience as a financial counselor with a background in medical terminology, understanding State and Federal assistance programs, or relevant healthcare experience

Responsibilities

  • Counsel uninsured and under-insured patients to attempt to obtain a paying funding source for their medical service(s)
  • Accurately and compassionately explain financial options and obligations during financial counseling sessions held directly with patients
  • Multi-task, use and navigate multiple systems
  • Communicate with compassion and authenticity to build trust with patients when discussing sensitive situations
  • Gain and display a thorough understanding of Medicaid and other funding programs to provide patients with clear and concise information
  • Communicate complex coverage enrollment information with patients and assist with their applications effectively and efficiently
