About The Position

This position plays a key role in supporting the financial operations of the Department, with a primary focus on services for multiple Probation & Parole (P&P) offices. The role is responsible for processing accounts payable and receivable transactions, ensuring invoices and payments are handled accurately, approved properly, and processed in a timely manner. Duties include verifying and posting Supervised Individuals (S/I) payments, maintaining S/I financial accounts, and supporting systems used to collect court-ordered fines, fees, and supervision payments. The position also helps administer the Department's Offender Tax Setoff Program, working with the state tax department to recover past-due supervision fees through state tax return offsets. Responsibilities include determining eligible debts, communicating with S/I's regarding disputes or payments, processing funds received, and maintaining accurate records in compliance with applicable policies and laws. Additional responsibilities include preparing general ledger (G/L) journal entries, assisting with budget monitoring and projections for multiple P&P offices, and supporting financial planning by tracking payroll costs, operating expenses, and program budgets. This role also serves as a payroll delegate and expense coordinator, assisting with bi-weekly payroll review and approvals, auditing payroll data, coordinating employee expense submissions, and ensuring compliance with state finance policies. Overall, this position requires strong attention to detail, knowledge of financial procedures, and the ability to coordinate with vendors, field staff, and departmental leadership to ensure accurate financial management and compliance with state guidelines. Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting AND one (1) year of accounting experience maintaining, reviewing, analyzing and accounting or financial data and records to ensure compliance with accepted accounting practices and standards
  • Associate's degree in accounting, business administration, office administration or a related field AND four (4) years of professional experience in accounting, maintaining, reviewing, analyzing and accounting or financial data and records to ensure compliance with accepted accounting practices and standards
  • High School diploma or equivalent AND five (5) years or more of professional experience in accounting involving maintaining, reviewing, and analyzing accounting or financial data and records to ensure compliance with accepted accounting practices and standards.
  • Two (2) year as a Financial Administrator II with the State of Vermont.

  • CPA certificate is considered qualifying.
  • For some positions preference may be given to applicants with supervisory experience.
  • For some positions experience working with the VISION system (VISION is the State of Vermont PeopleSoft financial management system)may be required.
