Field Systems Engineer
About The Position
Shield is supporting the recruitment for this opportunity with one of our partner companies. The role will be employed directly by the partner organization, not Shield. We’re seeking a Remote Field Systems Engineer to lead technical operations, serve as the top escalation point for our L1/L2 engineers, and oversee enterprise systems and cloud platforms for our diverse client environments. This is a hands-on leadership role, combining deep technical expertise, strategic project management, and a passion for delivering top-tier client service. Please note: While this position is primarily remote in nature, candidates must live within a commutable distance to Boston, MA. Travel to client sites in the Boston area will be required on an as-needed basis.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s in Computer Science, IT, or related field or equivalent experience
- 7+ years of progressive IT support experience across all tiers
- Strong expertise in Microsoft 365, Azure, G Suite, VoIP, and system administration
- Advanced certifications (e.g., CompTIA CASP, MCSE, VMware, ITIL Expert)
- Solid understanding of financial data applications and technical integrations
- Experience with enterprise mobility and endpoint management
- Networking know-how (VPNs, Firewalls, Cloud networking)
- Leadership skills with the ability to coach, mentor, and uplift teams
- Excellent troubleshooting, communication, and customer service abilities
Nice To Haves
- Experience with Scripting, RMM, Backups, KVM, DUO, Intune and Patch Management a plus
Responsibilities
- Lead complex technical projects and manage enterprise systems
- Oversee new client onboarding, ensuring smooth implementations
- Provide expert escalation support for challenging system and end-user issues
- Guide and mentor L1/L2 support teams to elevate service delivery
- Manage cloud platforms, enterprise applications, VoIP systems, and remote access infrastructure
- Architect and manage mobile device strategies (iOS, Android)
- Support financial data applications like Bloomberg, FactSet, and Enfusion
- Lead capacity planning, system monitoring, performance tuning, and incident response
- Own project management for client onboarding, from discovery to post-implementation
