The Field Service Specialist at CF Rail Services delivers exceptional customer service by providing onsite mobile repairs at customer facilities. This will be accomplished through quality workmanship, meeting AAR Requirements, while providing accurate industry standard formatted billing. As a Field Service Specialist, Here's What You'll Do:

Requirements

  • High school diploma or General Education Degree (GED)
  • Successfully pass the following courses with an 80% or higher score coordinated by CF Rail Management AAR Billing Repair Card for Interchange Rules Car Air Brakes (chalk talk two) Guide to Freight Car Air Brakes course Air Brake training course
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suit and BRC generation software/ shop operating system.
  • Ability to deliver high level of customer service via phone and face to face interaction.
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

  • Highly effective communication skills verbally and in writing
  • Work assignments involve standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, reaching, climbing, crawling, and crouching in strained and awkward positions for prolonged periods of time at various heights up to 20 feet.
  • Uses hands, legs, and arms to climb vertical ladders to staging or suspended platforms.
  • Lifts, carries, and sets up equipment and components that weigh up to 50 lbs.
  • Employee must be medically certified to wear a respirator, as well as be able to wear respirators for prolonged periods of time.
  • Ability to perform air brake testing
  • Ability to operate Welding Equipment
  • Ability to operate electrical and pneumatic tools
  • Ability to operate heavy equipment (Cranes, Jacks)
  • Ability to operate Forklifts, Mobile Service Trucks, Boom Lifts
  • Required valid drivers licences, and ability to drive Company vehicles when necessary.
  • Ability to travel within established 200-mile region.
  • Ability to travel for an extended period of time

Responsibilities

  • Successfully complete, perform, and maintain the Field Service Technician job functions.
  • Perform Air Brake diagnostic testing, address findings, and qualify brake systems per AAR specifications.
  • Perform mechanical defect inspection.
  • Perform basic pre, in-process and post freight car inspections and repairs.
  • Proficiently use AAR field manual and associated regulatory materials.
  • Capable of repairing and reconstructing railroad damaged railcars using written instructions, drawings, and acquired institutional knowledge.
  • Successfully complete this positions Education/Formal Training requirements.
  • Wear PPE in appropriate areas
  • Note: Responsibilities include the expectation to always act to support the interests of the department and organization and to perform other duties as assigned to ensure the successful achievement of departmental and company objectives.
