About The Position

The Field Service Engineer represents Shellback Semiconductor Technology at customer semiconductor fabrication facilities across EMEA. This role supports the installation, commissioning, troubleshooting, and upgrade of Shellback wet processing platforms, including PLC-controlled wafer processing systems and their integrated heater assemblies, DI water distribution modules, and safety interlock subsystems. The position requires direct engagement with customer engineering and production teams to diagnose electrical, electronic, and control-related issues, restore equipment performance, and support stable wafer processing operations. Travel across EMEA is required and may account for up to 70% of working time, including occasional weekend assignments. International travel to Shellback headquarters may also be required for technical training and certification. Location: Remote, preferably based in the Netherlands (Amsterdam region) for central access to EMEA travel Your Impact The Field Service Engineer is expected to demonstrate strong electromechanical troubleshooting capability combined with professional customer engagement in semiconductor fabrication environments. This role requires disciplined problem-solving, clear technical communication, and full ownership of assigned service activities from diagnosis through resolution. The engineer must successfully complete all required customer fab training and site access certifications necessary to perform work within production facilities.

Requirements

  • Candidates must demonstrate strong electromechanical aptitude with hands-on experience supporting industrial or technical equipment in a field service or maintenance environment.
  • Proficient use of multimeter and oscilloscope for electrical diagnostics
  • Component-level and board-level troubleshooting capability
  • Experience working with 3-phase power systems and industrial control panels
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and technical drawings
  • Soldering and cable fabrication skills
  • Mechanical and electrical system integration experience
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Structured troubleshooting and analytical mindset
  • Clear communication with customer engineering and production teams
  • Ability to operate effectively in semiconductor cleanroom environments
  • Comfortable working under production schedule pressure
  • Strong time management and documentation discipline
  • Ability to meet internal reporting and project deadlines
  • Technical diploma, vocational electronics training, military electronics training, or equivalent hands-on experience required
  • Demonstrated hands-on experience in electrical and electronic troubleshooting is essential
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications for reporting, documentation, and communication

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in semiconductor capital equipment is preferred. Experience in related high-precision industries such as industrial automation, aerospace, military electronics, medical systems, or advanced manufacturing is also highly valued.
  • PLC-controlled equipment exposure preferred
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related technical discipline is a plus but not mandatory

Responsibilities

  • Install, commission, and validate Shellback wet processing platforms, including PLC-controlled wafer processing systems, heater assemblies, DI water distribution modules, and safety interlock subsystems
  • Perform system-level and component-level troubleshooting of electrical, electronic, and control-related faults
  • Execute hardware and software upgrades in accordance with released engineering documentation and configuration control standards
  • Lead and execute retrofit plans, including mechanical and electrical modifications
  • Perform preventive and corrective maintenance to restore production readiness and minimize tool downtime
  • Conduct structured root cause analysis and provide technical feedback to Engineering and Technical Support
  • Support service contract activities, including scheduled maintenance and performance verification
  • Optimize system performance through calibration, parameter verification, and functional validation
  • Deliver technical training to customer maintenance teams and internal service personnel as required
  • Operate with urgency and full ownership of assigned customer issues, driving resolution through structured diagnosis, clear communication, and defined action plans.
  • Maintain transparent and proactive communication with customers and internal teams, and escalating appropriately when required.
  • Adhere to engineering revisions and service updates, accurate and timely submission of service reports and expenses, and disciplined documentation practices consistent with company procedures.
  • Work effectively within a team-based global service organization, maintain a valid passport for international travel, and meet the physical requirements of the role, including lifting up to 50 pounds, using hand tools in confined areas, and working in varied physical positions within cleanroom environments.
