As a Field Safety Specialist, you will partner closely with our Safety Promoter and project teams to evaluate, enhance, and support our safety programs. You’ll serve as a coach, educator, and trusted resource—helping teammates and vendor partners implement safe practices, stay compliant, and return home safely every day. This role requires regular travel to job sites to conduct audits, deliver training, and reinforce Buffalo Construction’s unwavering commitment to safety. The right candidate must live in the Louisville, KY area or be willing to relocate.

Requirements

  • Associate’s or bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Construction Sciences, or a related field.
  • Safety certifications such as CSP, ASP, CHST, OHST , or other accredited safety credentials.
  • 3+ years of experience in a construction or industrial safety role preferred.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to present safety information effectively to groups.
  • Thorough knowledge of construction safety regulations and compliance requirements.
  • Creative problem-solving skills with the ability to develop practical safety solutions in the field.
  • Familiarity with digital safety platforms and field auditing software.

Nice To Haves

  • Certifications from BCSP such as CHST, ASP, GSP, or CSP.
  • Experience using construction management and auditing software such as Procore, Safety Reports, Insight , or similar tools.
  • Experience participating in OSHA inspections and navigating the citation process.
  • Training certifications for MEWP , forklift (ANSI compliant), First Aid/CPR/AED , and Bloodborne Pathogens .
  • Demonstrated leadership experience with the ability to inspire safe behaviors and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
  • In-depth knowledge of OSHA regulations, specifically 29 CFR 1926 .

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the Safety Promoter to evaluate, develop, and execute company safety programs, policies, and training initiatives.
  • Partner with project teams to educate and coach field teammates on safety best practices, fostering a proactive and positive safety culture.
  • Conduct job site safety audits: identify potential hazards, evaluate work practices, recommend corrective actions, and document findings in company systems.
  • Deliver meaningful, actionable feedback to field teams regarding their safety performance.
  • Demonstrate proper usage of PPE and safety equipment when needed.
  • Provide required safety training to ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Support project teams in the investigation of incidents and near misses, identifying root causes and corrective measures to prevent recurrence.
