The Doe Run Company is currently seeking a Field Safety Specialist under general supervision, supporting underground mining activities to be conducted safely and in compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. Provides strong field presence to monitor work practices, train employees, identify hazards, implement corrective actions, and support regulatory inspections. This role is based out of our Brushy Creek Mine but will support multiple work sites. The work location may change as needed to support production and business needs within the Viburnum Trend in Southeast Missouri.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 5 years of underground mining experience.
  • Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), i-Series.
  • Proficient knowledge of federal, state, and local safety regulations and/or procedures.
  • Proficient ability to conduct investigations, analyze information, and draw a conclusion.
  • Demonstrate proficient knowledge of MSHA regulations (Part 57).
  • Ability to effectively communicate safety instructions and concerns to employees and management.
  • Valid driver’s license.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior safety or supervisory experience preferred.
  • MSHA Instructor certification (preferred) or ability to obtain.
  • Current CPR certification and Blue Card holder preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain a consistent underground presence to direct work activities, identify hazards, and verify compliance with safety procedures and MSHA regulations.
  • Coach, mentor, and train employees and front-line leaders on safe work practices, critical controls, and regulatory requirements through hands-on training, safety meetings, and one-on-one instruction.
  • Serve as a safety-focused leader and subject matter expert for underground operations, using independent decision-making and strong field engagement to reinforce safe work behavior.
  • Conduct routine safety inspections and audits of underground work areas; document non-compliance issues, recommend and/or direct corrective actions, and follow up to ensure resolution.
  • Escort MSHA inspectors during inspections and assist with addressing findings and completing required corrective actions.
  • Participate in or lead investigations of incidents, near-misses, and injuries; identify root causes and recommend corrective measures to prevent recurrence.
  • Assist in the development, coordination, and delivery of MSHA-required training, including task training.
  • Collaborate with site safety specialists and mine leadership to ensure consistent safety messaging, procedural compliance, and alignment with company safety objectives.
  • Support documentation, reporting, and recordkeeping requirements related to inspections, training, corrective actions, and underground safety compliance.
  • Complete tasks in a safe and environmentally compliant manner by following EHS policies, procedures, and best practices; support and assist peers in working in a safe, compliant manner; report unsafe acts or conditions, incidents, and deviations; and provide feedback to support continuous improvement in EHS performance.
