This individual is responsible for the application of Raba Kistner, Inc. Enterprise Wide Health and Safety Program which includes RSO (Radiation Safety Officer) responsibilities, planning, developing, and coordinating compliance with applicable federal, state, and local safety and environmental regulations, laws, codes, and rules in order to preserve human health and environmental integrity for corporate, regional, and project site offices. Others responsibilities include: Coordinate with supervision on project safety implementation at all levels of the job site. Complete regular safety assessments, and recommend improvement strategies, additional company policies and programs that improve Raba Kistner’s safety efforts. Communicate frequently and effectively with the Corporate Safety Manager on all safety issues. Provide direction and mentorship to less experienced staff. Participate in project required safety committees. Thoroughly investigate incidents and provide assistance in completing reports and forms. Provide site specific training and safety orientations. Identify safety situations that require immediate action and remove employees when needed. Interact with general contractors, owners, other trades, and clients appropriately. Train personnel and assist with the completion of Job Hazard Analysis.  As the RSO, you will be required to: review multiple state and federal laws and Raba Kistner’s procedures to ensure the compliance, safety, and efficiency of the RK Radiation Safety Program; prepare documentation for submittal for license renewals, license amendments, and adding of new locations; perform and/or review investigations of overexposures, accidents, losses, thefts, unauthorized receipts, misuses, or other deviations from approved radiation safety practice and implement corrective actions when necessary; respond to safety emergencies and formally report; perform audits and recommend improvements; consolidate, digitize, improve, and advance overall program; establish and track KPIs.  Understand, adhere, and participate in the Raba Kistner Health & Safety and BBS Programs, setting a good example of our safety standards.  Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma required.
  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience in health & safety, and prior experience in the AEC industry is a must.
  • Possess valid Texas driver’s license and meet company’s auto insurability requirements.
  • Must also be willing to attain RSO certification within 90 days of employment.
  • The person in this position must have strong oral and written communication skills to interact with employees, managers, agencies, vendors, and subcontractors.
  • You must be able to speak loudly and plainly enough to be understood at a 5-ft. distance in a drilling/construction environment having a background sound level of 85 dab, and hear a conversational tone of voice at 1 ft. distance in a drilling/construction environment having a background sound level of 85 dab.
  • This position requires you to have analytical skills to identify and describe problem areas and recommend solutions, and also be proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • The Safety Specialist/RSO will have the ability to travel 40 – 60% of the time, have a valid driver’s license, and meet firm’s auto insurability requirements.

Nice To Haves

  • CSHO (Certified Safety and Health Official), OSHA 501 – OSHA Trainer Course for General Industry, OSHA 500 – OSHA Trainer Course General Construction certifications are preferred, but not required.
  • The ability to speak Spanish is a plus.
