About The Position

Under the supervision of the immediate manager, participates in the operations, conservation, Education, and research activities at the Gault Nature Reserve, located in Mont-Saint-Hilaire (40 km from downtown Montreal).

Requirements

  • High School Diploma
  • Enrolled in a full-time program at McGill University or newly graduate McGill student
  • Communication skills
  • Autonomous and resourcefulness
  • Strong organization skills and attention to detail

Nice To Haves

  • Bilingualism (English/French), an asset
  • Knowledge of geographic information systems (GIS) to analyze and visualize spatial data is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Engages in conservation projects to preserve the mountain’s fauna and flora.
  • Participates in the management of invasive plants.
  • Assists with data collection for research purposes.
  • Supports in data entry and processing in established inventory databases.
  • Participates in public awareness projects (i.e., holding kiosks on research projects, guided tours).
  • Helps maintain the laboratories and research equipment of the Reserve.
  • Patrols and monitors the trails at the Gault Nature Reserve.
  • Performs landscaping, trail maintenance, and ecological restoration projects which may require use of specialized equipment or vehicles.
  • Assists with land and plot preparation (soil tilling, rock picking, seeding, weeding, irrigation, and drainage).
  • Carries out general maintenance tasks (i.e., painting and repairs).
