About The Position

The primary responsibility of the ISP Splicer is the preparation and splicing of fiber optic cables in both outdoor and indoor environments. The position requires a good working knowledge of telecommunication infrastructure; familiarity with fiber optic cable and splice enclosures; ability to use fusion splicing equipment and an OTDR; Ability to read, create and maintain splicing schematics and diagrams. Ability to identify and troubleshoot fiber issues; Must be able maintain control of activities surrounding the assigned work site(s); Maintain accurate splicing and field notes; Support project timelines and provide accurate feedback. Other duties, responsibilities and qualifications may be required and/or assigned.

Requirements

  • High School, a combination of education and experience is acceptable.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to distinguish between colors and read diagrams.

Nice To Haves

  • Individuals must have a valid driver's license and driving record meeting the company policy conditions.
  • Must be able to stand for long periods of time on varied surfaces.
  • Position requires working outdoors in all types of weather.
  • Ability to climb and work at elevations (e. g. from ladders, poles, lift trucks) exceeding 18 feet.
  • Ability to work in confined spaces (e. g. attics, crawl spaces, utility holes).
  • Ability to pay close attention to detail and make good sound decisions based on information given.
  • Ability to multitask and stay organized under pressure.
  • All around good attitude and aptitude to learn and grow.

Responsibilities

  • Splice fiber optic cables including both loose tube and ribbon optic cables.
  • Construct a proper splice case, including but not limited to: grounding, bonding, isolation, slack storage and sealing.
  • Fiber splicing may occur at various locations such as cellular sites, Central Offices, Carrier POPs, Enterprise facilities, military bases, schools and more.
  • Prepare and maintain splicing records, schematics and diagrams.
  • Perform work in accordance with industry standards and adhere to safety procedures.
  • Travel will be required and maybe up to 80%, depending on business needs.
