Job Summary: Our operating unit provides full-service construction, repair and emergency services related to Cable TV, Telephone, Fiber-Optic communications, and Power construction including underground trenching, plowing, missile, and directional boring and aerial construction, and we are looking for a Fiber Splicer to join our team. Fiber Splicers perform tasks associated with aerial and underground construction, splicing of fiber optic cable and communication systems for cable television.

Requirements

  • Possess a valid driver’s license
  • Fiber Optic Knowledge: Understanding the principles of fiber optic communication, including the types of fibers, their properties, and how they transmit data.
  • Splicing Techniques: Proficiency in various splicing methods, such as fusion splicing and mechanical splicing, and using related tools like splicing machines.
  • Interpretation of Blueprints and Schematics: Ability to read and interpret construction blueprints, wiring diagrams, and network schematics.
  • Able to work both individually and in a team environment.
  • Able to communicate professionally
  • Able to lift and/or pull up to 80 pounds several times a day.
  • Must be able to use hand tools such as screw drivers, pliers, drills, and wrenches.
  • Have a high school diploma or equivalent.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience in the telecom, utility, construction, and/or engineering industry
  • Certifications: Industry-recognized certifications such as Fiber Optic Association (FOA) Certified Fiber Optic Technician (CFOT) or other relevant credentials.

Responsibilities

  • Read and interpret work orders, specifications, engineering drawings and/or cut sheets to determine work to be done in sequence of task.
  • Repair or splice in new line as needed to complete the testing and certification of the project.
  • Install all passive and active devices, enclosures, and term panels.
  • Test fiber optic lines for balanced signal between points-continuity.
  • Pull fiber optic through existing duct package, pull cable through conduit either manually, blowing, or mechanically, and splice and activate underground and aerial lines.
  • Optimize new Nodes and splice in node splits to reduce capacity.
  • Utilize light meters and OTDR accurately.
  • Learn how to safely utilize bucket trucks or climb utility poles to place cables on poles per system design.
  • Close a project by completing production sheets, verifying proper levels after activation, adjust and troubleshoot, as necessary.
  • Ensure that all work considers the safety of the customer, public and compliance with all governmental orders.
  • Maybe required to perform additional duties and tasks as required by the Company.
