Summary Contributes to the efficient operation of the feedlot by completing a variety of supervised tasks.

Requirements

  • To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.   • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
  • Ability to write simple correspondence.
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one situation.
  • Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's.
  • Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.
  • Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • The employee is frequently required to stand; walk; sit; use hands/fingers to handle, manipulate, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk or hear.
  • The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in outside weather conditions and is regularly exposed to fumes or airborne particles.
  • The employee frequently works near moving mechanical parts.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
  • Work may be performed in pens with animals present.

Responsibilities

  • Cleans pens, scales, feed bunks, water tank drains, and troughs to maintain sanitary feeding facilities.
  • Performs routine repairs and general maintenance duties throughout the feedlot.
  • Operates water truck as needed to provide livestock hydration and control dust.
  • Carries out additional tasks as directed by the supervisor.
