About The Position

The Motion Sensing team develops ground breaking sensors that are central to enabling MEMS and magnetics sensing technologies across Apple products. This team features a collaborative environment with creative, smart people and state of the art technologies. Engineering excellence and thoroughness are expected and encouraged. Invention and patent creation are expected and supported. Opening up the boundaries to design and ship innovative products with best-in-class technologies and user experiences is the main goal of this sensing technology team at Apple. In this role, you will help ensure that our motion sensing hardware meet our users' needs through rigorous systems engineering analysis and robust systems architectures. You will translate top-level requirements into guidance for module and system integration teams. The models you develop and curate will help our team derive accurate requirements for our motion sensor modules, and provide quantitative guidance as we navigate system integration challenges across Apple's entire product portfolio..You will be a feature architect, responsible for proving that motion sensing hardware capabilities meet feature requirements. You will provide the quantitative link between hardware specifications and the end-user feature figures of merit.

Requirements

  • PhD and 5+ years of hands-on experience and proven track record in motion sensor (IMU, magnetometer, or pressure sensor) and/or sensing system development
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and solid teamwork and leadership skills
  • Experience in architecture, design, characterization, and validation of motion sensor or sensing technology that includes theory of operation, signal processing, fabrication, packaging and design trade-offs
  • Deep understanding of electrical or mechanical engineering, transducer physics, and system engineering
  • Good understanding of motion sensing technologies, such as MEMS accelerometers, gyroscopes, pressure sensors, and magnetic sensing technology
  • Good fundamentals in signal processing, probability, and statistics
  • Experience in modeling, building, and testing complex multi-physics systems
  • Experience in modeling, data collection, data analysis, and statistical analysis tools (ANSYS Maxwell, Comsol, Matlab, Python, JMP)
