About The Position

The FBS Executive Director, under general direction, provides leadership for departmental functions to include planning, directing, and evaluating departmental operations. Provides oversight of business activities, strategic planning and development, and program administration. Functions as departmental liaison to customers and represents the University on various committees.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Ten years of related experience
  • Knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications
  • Knowledge of financial management system and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work independently once given a project
  • Ability to apply rules and regulations in a complex environment
  • This position is security sensitive
  • This position requires compliance with state and federal laws/codes and Texas A&M University System/TAMU policies, regulations, rules and procedures
  • All tasks and job responsibilities must be performed safely without injury to self or others in compliance with System and University safety requirements
  • Persons in this position are considered essential when the University declares an emergency, campus closure, class cancellations, etc., and are therefore required to report to work and remain on duty unless/until relieved by the direct supervisor

Responsibilities

  • Provides leadership for departmental functions to include planning, directing, and evaluating departmental operations
  • Directly supervises and maintains responsibility for multiple units within department, including directing the efforts of and supervising management and other staff
  • Leads the development of short-term and long-term departmental goals and objectives
  • Provides effective budget management and oversees fiscal operations of departments by establishing cost controls
  • Directs the administration of university-wide programs and initiatives
  • Manage strategic planning and development of integrated programs
  • Serves as a liaison and coordinates working relationships with academic and non-academic units of the University
  • Serves as an advisor/consultant to the University community regarding matters relating to department operations
  • Leads the development and oversight of communications, promotions, and public relations for departments
  • Develops, directs, and evaluates process compliance and internal controls
  • Provides information and reporting to management
  • Recommends new departmental and University-wide policies or revisions to existing policies
  • Stays abreast of developments in the field
  • Participates in training and professional development sessions
  • Serves on various State, local, University, and System-wide committees
  • Direct funding, tracking, and reporting of financial commitments to university entities and System members, including multi-year commitments for research infrastructure and grant programs for the Vice President for Research
  • Lead service center rate studies to ensure compliance with university rules, System regulations, and federal cost accounting standards (OMB A-21, A-133, A-87)
  • Ensure all service center rates are approved by the Division of Finance and Administration prior to implementation
  • Oversee the distribution and reporting of facility and administrative (F&A) earnings and indirect cost allocations for TAMU, TAMUHSC, TAMUG, and System entities
  • Develop executive-level financial reports and communicate earnings distributions to colleges, principal investigators, and departments
  • Lead the Research Enterprise Business Services Leadership team in setting strategic direction, goals, and operational policies for the Division of Research
  • Represent the Division of Research in business matters across the University, System members, and external stakeholders
  • Serve as a liaison to Financial Management Operations (FMO) for budget and finance-related activities
